Field Security Radio Operator

Org. Setting and Reporting
- This position is located in the Security Section of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) with duty station in Provincial Office - Faizabad (Badakhshan). The Field Security Radio Operator (GL-4) reports to Deputy Area Security Adviser (DASA) in Faizabad on all issues related to the Security Operations Center (SOC) at the Provincial Security Office in Faizabad (Badakhshan).
- Responsibilities
- Within the delegated authority, the Field Security Radio Operator will be assigned to the Provincial Security Office (Radio Room) in Faizabad (Badakhshan) and will be responsible for the following functions: - Conducts radio checks with all Security Guards on duty daily. - Conducts radio checks with all International Security Officers at designated hours daily (including weekends and holidays). - Conducts radio checks with all International Staff and Re-locatable National Staff including UN Agencies and Visitors at designated hours daily. - Monitors the various radio channels and report all security incidents to the Security Duty Officer. - Assists in broadcasts all security related information to all UN personnel via the various radio channels as directed by Area Security Adviser / designated Security Duty Officer Officers. - Provides necessary assistance to all UN staff and staff of other affiliated organizations who may need security assistance through radio channels or telephone. - Advises all radio users who stray to the security channel with matters not related to security to switch to the proper channel. - Responds to all telephone calls coming into the radio room and direct the person to the appropriate section. - Report on a timely manner distress calls from UNSMS personnel, record possible useful information related to the exact location and pass the same on to the attending Officer. - Conduct the Security Communication Check with UNSMS premises security guards - Conduct the Public Address equipment check as per the SOC SOP in Faizabad. - Report any incident/ information that can impact the security UNSMS personnel, assets/program in the Security Area. - Maintains control of all spare keys to mission offices. Register the withdrawal and return of all keys in the key register logbook. Maintain the key control register. - Assists in recording and maintaining all activities occurring during his/her shifts. - Assists in maintaining an updated list of all emergency contact numbers. - Assists in maintaining the telephone numbers and call signs of all senior security personnel, International and National Staff including UN agencies and Visitors. - Assists in maintaining and familiarizing self with the weekly/monthly duty rosters for the various sections within the mission. - Maintains all equipment assigned to the radio room. - Reports any damages of any equipment assigned to the radio room and arrange for the repairs of such equipment. - Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. - Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures - Performs other duties as directed by the OIC DASA or ASA or the International Security Duty Officer. - Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. - Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.

- High school diploma or equivalent is required.

- Work Experience
- With High School Certificate, a minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience in the field of security services with a military, police, or private security company. With relevant first level university degree or higher in security services, military or police one (1) year relevant experience is required. Experience of working in a Security Operations Centre or Radio Room is required. Experience and exposure at the international level or experience working in International Organization is desirable. Experience of handling VHF radio and other communication equipment is required.

- English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised fluency in English is required. Knowledge of Pashto and Dari is desirable.
