Shop Floor Supervisor

Position Overview: The Machine Shop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the operations of a machine shop and leading a team of machine operators and technicians. This role involves coordinating work schedules, ensuring the efficient use of resources, maintaining a safe working environment, and driving the achievement of production targets. The Machine Shop Supervisor plays a critical role in managing personnel, maintaining equipment, implementing quality control measures, and promoting continuous improvement in the machine shop's processes.

Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Supervise and provide guidance to machine operators and technicians, including training, performance evaluations, and fostering a positive work environment.

Production Planning: To develop production schedules, prioritize work orders, and allocate resources effectively to meet production targets.

Workflow Management: Monitor daily operations in the machine shop, ensuring that work is progressing according to schedule, addressing any issues or delays, and implementing corrective actions as necessary.

Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the maintenance and calibration of machinery, tools, and equipment, coordinating with maintenance personnel to minimize downtime and maximize machine availability.

Quality Control: Implement and enforce quality control procedures, conducting regular inspections of machined parts to ensure adherence to specifications and resolving any quality issues that arise.

Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process optimization, cost reduction, and efficiency improvements in machining operations, and collaborate with relevant stakeholders to implement and monitor changes.

Safety Compliance: Ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of safety awareness among machine shop personnel, conducting regular safety inspections and addressing any safety concerns promptly.

Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels of raw materials, tools, and supplies, coordinating with procurement to ensure adequate stock levels for uninterrupted production.

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate records of production data, machine maintenance, quality control activities, and other relevant information, preparing reports as required.

Training and Development: Identify training needs within the team, provide training on machine operation, safety procedures, and quality standards, and facilitate cross-training to enhance employee skills and versatility.

**Requirements**:

- Diploma or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering; technical or vocational training in machining or a related field is preferred.
- Proven experience in a machine shop environment, including experience in a supervisory or leadership role.
- Strong technical knowledge of machining processes, tools, and equipment.
- Familiarity with CNC machining and programming is highly desirable.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a team.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and commitment to ensuring a safe working environment.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Strong organizational and time management abilities.
- Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
