**Core Responsibilities**
**1. Medical Equipment Management**
- Oversee the **inventory, procurement, installation, maintenance, and decommissioning** of all medical equipment.
- Ensure equipment is functional, calibrated, and safe for patient use.
- Schedule and supervise **preventive maintenance** and calibration programs.
- Monitor performance and handle equipment upgrades or replacements.
**2. Team Supervision**
- Lead and manage team.
- Assign duties, provide technical guidance, and ensure high standards of service.
- Conduct regular training and skill development programs for team.
**3. Compliance and Quality Control**
- Ensure all medical equipment complies with the **safety standards** (e.g., NABH).
- Maintain accurate documentation for audits and certifications.
- Ensure infection control practices related to equipment handling.
**4. Budgeting and Procurement**
- Coordinate with purchase and finance departments for equipment procurement.
- Evaluate vendor proposals, negotiate pricing, and manage AMCs (Annual Maintenance Contracts) and CMCs (Comprehensive Maintenance Contracts).
- Prepare annual budgets for biomedical services.
**5. Technical Support & Troubleshooting**
- Provide technical support during emergency equipment failures.
- Liaise with OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) and service engineers for major repairs.
**6. Training and User Support**
- Conduct training for clinical and nursing staff on proper equipment usage and basic troubleshooting.
- Develop SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for usage and emergency protocols.
**7. Documentation and Reporting**
- Maintain records for equipment inventory, service logs, breakdown reports, and calibration certificates.
- Prepare monthly and annual reports on biomedical operations and expenditures.
**Strategic & Administrative Roles**
- Collaborate with hospital management in planning for technology upgrades and equipment expansion.
- Evaluate and recommend new technologies aligned with clinical needs and hospital goals.
- Participate in hospital committees related to safety, procurement, and quality control.
**Regulatory & Safety Responsibilities**
- Ensure biomedical waste related to equipment is safely handled or disposed.
- Monitor radiation safety compliance (especially in radiology, cath labs, etc.).
- Coordinate with legal/insurance in case of equipment-related incidents.
**Advanced Responsibilities**
**1. Clinical Integration and Collaboration**
- **Work closely with Medical and Surgical departments** to understand their needs for medical equipment and technological advancements.
- Ensure **equipment is optimized for clinical workflows**-this includes custom configurations or integration with hospital information systems (HIS).
- Participate in **clinical trials and research projects** that require specialized equipment.
**2. Risk Management and Safety Protocols**
- Conduct regular **risk assessments** for medical equipment, identifying potential hazards and implementing safety protocols.
- Ensure the **safety of patients** and staff when dealing with high-risk equipment like X-ray machines, MRI, and radiation therapy devices.
- Coordinate with hospital's **infection control** and **quality assurance teams** to align equipment maintenance with safety guidelines (e.g., sterilization protocols).
**3. Hospital Infrastructure Planning**
- Assist hospital **facilities management** in planning for space, electrical load, and environmental conditions for the installation and operation of heavy or specialized medical equipment (like MRI suites, operating theatre’s).
- Play a key role in **renovation projects**, advising on the design and equipment layout.
**4. Vendor Management and Relationship Building**
- **Evaluate and manage relationships with vendors**, ensuring timely delivery, quality, and cost-effectiveness of equipment and spare parts.
- Develop **service level agreements (SLAs)** for ongoing maintenance and emergency services.
- Stay informed about **innovations in medical technology** and help the hospital remain competitive by adopting new devices or systems.
**5. Data Analytics and Performance Monitoring**
- Implement systems for **tracking equipment performance** (e.g., uptime, service frequency, failure rates).
- **Analyze data trends** to predict potential issues and proactively schedule maintenance or replacement.
- Provide **performance analysis** to senior management, helping them understand operational efficiency and potential cost savings.
**Collaboration with Other Departments**
**1. Clinical/Medical Departments**
- Collaborate with **nursing and medical staff** to understand their operational needs and address concerns regarding equipment usage.
- Organize regular **equipment review meetings** with clinical departments to get feedback and assess any gaps in current equipment.
