Bengaluru, India Thomson Reuters Full time

This is a position that will give an experienced journalist and aspiring newsroom leader the opportunity to play a key role in driving Bangalore’s expanding coverage of company news in North America, the UK and beyond.

Every day, Reuters news is seen by more than 1 billion people worldwide. Bangalore has grown rapidly to become the third-largest Reuters newsroom, and will continue to evolve as a hub for the organization’s market-moving company news coverage.

The Deputy News EDitor will play a leading role in writing, managing and improving our coverage of some of the world’s biggest and most exciting companies. S/he will help Bangalore to support other bureaus in covering the corporate giants of industry, tech and finance.

S/he will have a broad reach across the entire file, with a proven ability to switch from writing on an oil refinery sale or a JPMorgan results story to a shareholder squabble at an IT company. S/he will be able to prioritize when allocating resources and be nimble enough in the event of unexpected news to ensure smooth coverage of the day’s top stories.

Writing is at the core of this job. We require someone who is well versed in business news writing for a global investor audience and who can work with reporters and editors to beat our competition on the speed and sophistication of initial takes on major breaking news.

S/he will also be flexible, sensitive to change, and possess excellent communication skills that will enhance the relationship between the Bangalore newsroom and our internal clients in North America, London and other bureaus.

The Deputy News Editor will:

- Support the News Editor in planning, editing and ensuring smooth coverage of the day’s big company news stories in North America and the UK;
- Monitor and spot important breaking news and be hands on in ensuring initial coverage is written quickly and well.
- Prioritize and allocate reporting resources to ensure optimum coverage of company news from Bangalore;
- Lead from the front in writing trunk stories for major breaking news, in close collaboration with EICs and reporters;
- Work with the News Editor to tighten working relationships with colleagues in North America, London and other bureaus and draw on their expertise;
- Deputize for the News Editor in day to day operations and all planning calls.
- Work with team leaders in the bureau on automation and finding innovative ways to simplify the workflow. #LI-AS1
