The Veterinary Assistant supports veterinarians and veterinary technicians in the care and treatment of animals. Key Responsibilities:
1. Animal Care:
Assist with examinations, treatments, and surgeries.
Help restrain animals during exams and medical procedures.
Monitor animals before, during, and after procedures.
Administer medications and vaccines as directed by the veterinarian.
2. Clinical Support:
Clean and sterilize equipment and examination rooms.
Prepare surgical instruments and assist in surgical procedures.
Collect samples (e.g., blood, urine, feces) for testing.
Take and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, and respiration rate.
3. Administrative Duties:
Answer phones, schedule appointments, and assist with client inquiries.
Maintain accurate patient records and update information as necessary.
Process billing and payment transactions.
4. Customer Service:
Communicate with pet owners about their animals condition, treatment plans, and aftercare.
Provide emotional support to pet owners, especially in difficult situations.
5. Facility Maintenance:
Ensure cleanliness and organization of the facility.
Restock supplies and manage inventory.
Skills and Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent.
Some experience in a veterinary or animal care environment (preferred but not always required).
