Lifeguard

**Position Summary**
The Lifeguard is responsible for ensuring the safety of all adults and students using the aquatic facilities. They vigilantly monitor activities in the swimming pool area, assist swimmers, and inspect the facilities for safety and cleanliness. Their duties include speaking with swimmers to enforce swimming rules, keeping track of each swimmer in the water, and administering first aid to injured swimmers. They work with swim coaches to provide a safe environment for all swimmers.

**Responsibilities**:

- Health, Safety, and Security:_
- Maintains constant surveillance of patrons using the aquatics facility; acts immediately and appropriately to secure the safety of patrons in the event of an emergency.
- Follows ASB’s safety protocols and provides emergency care and treatment as required until the arrival of emergency medical services.
- Reacts calmly and effectively in emergencies.
- Utilizes lifeguarding surveillance and rescue techniques.
- Enforces rules and regulations to ensure safety and refers any breaches to their supervisor.
- Present at the pool area before instruction periods, have tools and supplies, and are ready for classes.
- Customer Service:_
- Provides courteous, friendly, and professional assistance and maintains a high standard of customer service.
- Presents a professional appearance. Lifeguards must wear approved staff clothing and carry the required lifeguard equipment while on duty.
- Engages and works collaboratively with all community stakeholders.
- Administrative:_
- Maintain appropriate logs of the aquatics facilities, and check water temperature and clarity.
- Attend scheduled department meetings and in-service meetings, and training.
- Other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
- Support all events in the aquatic facilities.
- Assist the Athletics and Activities office as required.
- Facilities and Maintenance:_
- Responsible for opening and closing the pool and securing facilities at the start and end of the workday.
- Set up and put away equipment for all physical education classes, aquatic training sessions, and events.
- Perform various maintenance duties as directed to maintain a clean and safe facility and prepare and maintain appropriate reports. Maintain a tidy workroom area and store.
- Inspect facilities for cleanliness, and perform daily pool, deck, and changing room checks.
- Maintain an inventory of all aquatic equipment and supplies and order necessary supplies under the direction of the Activities and Athletics Coordinator.
- Support the Activities and Athletics Department operations as required.
- Valid Certifications in Lifeguarding, Water Safety, first aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer from internationally accredited programs.
- Previous lifeguard experience
- Knowledge of current pool procedures, policies, rules and regulations governing the conduct of patrons using the pool and surrounding area.
- Water Safety Instructor certification and or previous teaching experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to communicate in written and spoken English.
- Successful completion of grade 12.
- Previous experience with students required.
- Requirements to Renew Contract:_
- The Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining valid certifications and licenses during their employment at the American School of Bombay.
- The School will require the Lifeguard to demonstrate fitness and skill during their employment tenure and may be asked to demonstrate proficiency through an internal or external assessment.
- This role requires that all successful applicants be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment and provide proof of such vaccinations prior to commencement of employment._
