A Production Planning Engineer in gear manufacturing is responsible for optimizing the production process by planning and scheduling gear manufacturing operations, ensuring efficient utilization of resources, meeting production targets, and maintaining quality standards, while collaborating closely with engineering, quality control, and shop floor personnel to streamline gear production. Key Responsibilities:

- **Production Planning and Scheduling**:

- Analyze customer orders and forecast demand to create detailed production plans and schedules for gear manufacturing.
- Allocate raw materials, work centers, and machinery based on production requirements.
- Optimize production flow to minimize lead times and maximize throughput.
- Monitor production progress against schedule and identify potential bottlenecks.
- Implement adjustments to schedules as needed to address production challenges.
- **Process Improvement**:

- Analyze production data to identify areas for improvement in gear manufacturing processes.
- Collaborate with engineering team to implement process changes and optimize gear cutting parameters.
- Identify and implement lean manufacturing principles to reduce waste and increase efficiency.
- **Quality Control**:

- Ensure adherence to quality standards throughout the gear manufacturing process.
- Monitor and analyze quality data to identify and address quality issues.
- Work closely with quality control team to implement corrective actions.
- **Material Management**:

- Manage inventory levels of raw materials and work-in-progress to ensure timely availability for production.
- Coordinate with procurement team to maintain optimal stock levels of raw materials.
- Monitor and address potential material shortages.
- **Capacity Planning**:

- Analyze production capacity and identify potential constraints in the gear manufacturing process.
- Develop strategies to optimize capacity utilization and meet production targets.
- Assess equipment needs and recommend upgrades or replacements as required.
- **Reporting and Analysis**:

- Generate detailed production reports, including production metrics, efficiency rates, and quality data.
- Analyze production data to identify trends and opportunities for further optimization.
- Present findings and recommendations to management.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Industrial Engineering
- Strong understanding of gear manufacturing processes, including gear cutting, heat treatment, and finishing operations
- Experience in production planning and scheduling within a manufacturing environment
- Proficiency in ERP systems and production planning software
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles is a plus
