**What you’ll do**:

- Climate risk has emerged as a top priority risk to HSBC and the team is helping to respond to the various challenges this poses, including how to embed climate risk management and measurement as well as to support and meet stakeholder demands, both internally and externally. We are hoping to find people who are passionate and enthusiastic about climate change who can bring climate risk expertise and experience in the context of banking to help build out the development of our capabilities across the team. The team is responsible for developing the WPB approach to climate risk modelling, including both physical and transition risks, supporting modelling, risk management, analytics and stress testing. This role will be focused on building out capability and infrastructure across WPB to support climate risk modelling, stress testing and analytics including data, data platforms, model calculators and model implementation as well as data visualization and reporting.

- Design and build climate risk calculation solutions, ensuring optimization of code base and execution processes
- Ensuring model implementation and execution is well controlled and understood
- Streamlining of existing activity along with critical evaluation and enhancement of processes
- Engaging teams across risk and finance to ensure future credit stress testing platforms meet needs including the definition of business requirements, management of risk deliverables and reporting to senior management
- Work closely with other teams to ensure requirements are met and data needs clearly articulated
- Robust documentation of risk developed solutions, ensuring appropriate governance
- Design data quality and data plausibility checks for both internal and external data feeds
Requirements

**What you will need to succeed in the role**:
**Essential Qualification**
- Given the newness of this function, there will be a need to engage with the wider Risk functions as well as Products, Finance etc. and conduct significant research to dig deeper in the aspects of Physical and Transition Risk.
- The role will involve generating visualisations/insights on the portfolio, considering what’s at risk from a climate perspective in case of new business and informing interventions in line with observed trends.
- Given that the models are run in Python, basic to intermediate technical experience on the same is required.
- Excellent analytical skills and comfortable working large datasets; able to perform de-trending and key data trigger point analysis
- Minimum 10 years of hands-on analytics experience solving complex business problems using data.
- PhD or Master’s degree from reputed university in statistics, economics or any other quantitative fields.
- Strong analytical skills with business analysis experience or equivalent. In-depth knowledge and understanding of financial-services/ banking-operations is a must.
- Strong understanding of consumer lending products like credit cards, mortgages, loans & overdrafts is a must.
- In depth hands on exposure in core credit risk management and analytics in retail banking or financial institutions.
- Excellent communication skills with technical (the team) and non-technical (senior management in region) counterparts - being able to "translate" between the two worlds is essential.
- Ability to establish strong relationships with stakeholders, both internally and externally.
- Exceptionally strong organizational, problem-solving & inter-personal skills. Ability to communicate clearly across all levels.
