**Job description**

**Position**: Opening for Special Educator

**About Aseema**: Aseema is a Mumbai-based NGO that is committed to equipping children from marginalized communities with high quality, value-based education, enabling the development of their limitless potential. We run three municipal schools in Mumbai in partnership with the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM), and one school for tribal children in Igatpuri. Aseema reaches out to 4,400 children living in vulnerable circumstances in urban slums and tribal communities.

**Job Location**: Bandra, Mumbai

**Position Summary**: As a Special Educator, you will identify children with special education needs and give them specialized support to help them realize their full potential. You will work in close collaboration with class teachers, social workers and counsellors to ensure that the school takes all possible measures to support the children’s well-being and development.

**Key responsibilities**:

- Design and carry out informal assessments to identify children who need special education support and understand their learning needs.
- Design Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for each child, in light of their learning needs.
- Plan and carry out effective and engaging remedials sessions for the children.
- Set clear goals for the children and keep track of their progress.
- Take all possible steps to boost student engagement, motivation and self-belief. Work with the children with empathy and respect.
- Collaborate with teachers, social workers, counsellors and parents to promote the children’s well-being.

**Required education**:
Graduate with B.Ed. Certification in Special Education is preferred.

**Required experience & knowledge**:

- Experience of working with children with learning difficulties, preferably children from marginalized communities (minimum of 2 years’ experience).
- Experience of conducting assessments for LDs and reporting the findings in a sensitive and constructive manner.
- An understanding of the educational options for children with LDs.

**Preferred experience**:

- Working with children from marginalized communities.
- Experience of working with parents to ensure that they understand their children’s needs and are able to support their learning.
- Experience with/ability to use ICT technologies in a productive way, particularly for special education.

- Strong oral and written communication skills in English.
- Able to build a rapport with children and find creative ways to engage children with different interests and learning styles.
