**Key Responsibilities**:
- Review and interpret ophthalmology-related medical records and documentation to assign accurate codes for diagnoses and procedures. Utilize ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems as per ophthalmology standards.
- Prepare and submit claims to insurance companies and government payers, ensuring compliance with payer-specific requirements.
- Monitor and follow up on unpaid or denied claims. Investigate and resolve discrepancies, and resubmit claims as necessary.
- Address patient billing inquiries, including questions about charges, payments, and insurance coverage. Provide clear explanations and work to resolve billing issues.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits for ophthalmic services. Confirm pre-authorization and pre-certification requirements.
- Generate and review billing reports to identify trends, outstanding claims, and potential issues. Prepare monthly reports for review by management.
- Ensure all billing practices adhere to federal, state, and payer regulations and guidelines. Stay updated on changes in ophthalmology billing codes and regulations.
- Work closely with ophthalmologists, office staff, and insurance representatives to streamline billing processes and address any concerns related to claims and payments.
**Qualifications**:
- Minimum 3 years of medical billing experience, with a focus on ophthalmology preferred.
- Proficiency in medical billing softwares.
- Strong knowledge of ophthalmology-related billing codes and insurance processes.
- Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and effective communication abilities.
