**Join Target Data Sciences team as a Principal Data Scientist - Merchandising**
As a Principal data scientist at Target, you will develop AI/ML models and algorithms that improve our business planning and operations. You will work closely with peer data scientists and business partners to develop a deep understanding of the various processes. Then you will partner with ML Engineers and Product engineers to build and productionize scalable solutions that meet our business needs.
Our team oversees the development and deployment of pricing and related merchandising AI/ML models at Target. The models that we build answer business questions like:
- What is the right price for this item at various store locations?
- How to best promote items in a particular department to meet the business objectives?
- How much space should we give for a particular department in a store?
- What is the best store layout?
In this role as a Principal data scientist, you will:
- Create our next generation pricing platform. Write code for mathematical and statistical models to evaluate right price for millions of items.
- Partner with business users and other scientists / product engineers to build a scalable framework that allows us to efficiently deploy the pricing engine
- Coordinate the analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of issues in our software and the broader infrastructure.
**What **we are** looking **for**:
- Masters in mathematics, statistics, operations research, economics, physics, computer science or equivalent work experience
- 10+ years of experience in modelling and algorithm design
- Significant expertise in linear algebra, statistics, information theory, econometrics, time series modelling, esp. in statistical inference, generalized linear models, Markov decision processes
- Experience in building price elasticity models
- Experience with optimization (LP/MILP)
- Experience with MLOps frameworks - Google vertex, MLFlow etc.
- Experience in Reinforcement Learning
- Highly proficient in Python
- Ability to scale algorithms using SPARK or other frameworks
- Ability to test and measure algorithms/models’ performance
- Ability and interest in technically mentoring junior data scientists
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
