Key Job Activities:
20% - Database Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize the performance of all database systems.

Use AWS CloudWatch and other tools to measure, monitor, and scale resources effectively.

20% - Database Management and Maintenance: Perform regular database maintenance tasks such as upgrades, backups, and recovery. Manage AWS RDS instances and ensure that best practices are followed for high availability and disaster recovery.

20% - Data Modelling and Design (20%): Work with development teams to design and implement database schemas. Provide expertise in data modelling and query optimization.

15% - Security Management: Implement and maintain database security protocols. Ensure data integrity and security using AWS security services like IAM, KMS, and VPC.

10% - Troubleshooting and Support: Serve as the primary contact for database-related issues. Provide timely support to resolve urgent and complex problems.

10% - SQL Development: Develop and optimize SQL queries and stored procedures. Assist development teams with complex query creation and tuning.

5% - Capacity Planning: Evaluate and plan for database capacity requirements. Use AWS services to efficiently manage storage and compute resources.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS (MINIMUM COMPETENCIES REQUIRED FOR JOB PERFORMANCE)

Minimum Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator.
- Strong knowledge of AWS database services such as RDS, DynamoDB, and Aurora.
- Experience with rational (MySQL/MSSQL) and NOSQL database approaches with depth in store procedures.
- Familiarity with common general scripting languages like python/java.
- Certifications in AWS technology are highly desirable.

PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- 7+ years’ work experience in software development
- BS in Computer Science or additional 5 years of database administration experience required in place of degree.
