Data Solutions Architect

Job Description: A pivotal role within the team and critical to delivery of the Chief Data Officer’s strategy for Micro Focus. At the enterprise level ensuring that Micro Focus has a cohesive technical capability and roadmap to drive efficient data solutions across the business. Within each element of the data landscape the Data Solutions architect will work with the team to draw out long term solutions to them. The role will have a balance between governing the overall architecture, designing individual elements to fit that wider view, and managing growth and expansion needs for each component as new requirements from the business arise. The role will centre on understanding the challenges and technical gaps faced by the company and providing solutions fit for purpose to drive out efficiency.

Key Tasks / Accountabilities
- On behalf of the Director of Data Engineering, own the overall design of the Micro Focus Data Solution Architecture
- Create and maintain the overall Architectural picture
- Assess any new additions or changes
- Ensure that it is in line with the company’s overall Enterprise Architecture strategy
- Act as a critical interlocutor to the IT organisation
- Technical lead for Existing and new Data Solutions.
- Accountable for the overall design of new data systems
- Ensure that new solutions add to the whole in line with the enterprise view
- Provides full transition support into production for successfully proven capabilities
- Will provide architectural oversight for products in development and production
- Responsible for cost and deployment estimates in supporting associated benefits case
- Defines and monitors best practice on the usage of current and strategic technology solutions in operation
- Act as the interface into EA and the IT department at the operational and systems levels
- Perform line management duties other members of the architecture team as required.
- Translates business requirements into functional and technical specifications and design documents
- Research and evaluate software technology, products, and solutions, and make recommendations on technology/production introduction, phase out, and retirement

- Complete and up to date architectural view of the data systems
- High quality solutions created with high rate of end user satisfaction
- Successful development and transitioning of new products and architectures into operational business-as-usual
- Continued alignment with the IT function - Data and IT are up to date and all changes are captured and understood
- Generate and maintain a view as to the options available to provide solutions to the current and future opportunities for Micro Focus to drive efficiencies and exploit data
- Successful mentoring of other technology staff to become self-sufficient in new technology areas in the business
- Author architecture artefacts that establish the specific standards and patterns that will be used by development teams.
- Work with the business to define solution and technology roadmaps

Knowledge Skills and Experience
- Strong technology background with particular focus on Data Warehouse, Analytics, MDM and Data Integration
- Ability to simplify & standardise complex concepts / processes
- Excellent communications and presentation skills, both written and oral
- Working knowledge, practical experience or skills in following technology areas:

- Data Migration
- Data integration technologies
- Database technology
- Data cataloguing and governance
- Business Intelligence technologies
- Linux and Windows operating systems
- Experience creating and reviewing detailed solution architectures and associated design documentation based on functional and technical requirements. Assessing solutions for architectural integrity, scalability and sustainability including adoption and use of Micro Focus and industry best practice.
- Skill and experience in running technology benchmarking exercises or product selections
- Focus on delivering simple and efficient solutions
- Technical Solution Architecture and frameworks e.g. TOGAF/Zachmann
- Project management or team leading beneficial
- Informatica solutions - EDC / Axon / MDM / IPC / IDQ
- Industry best practice including Service Oriented Architecture (SOA)
- Application / product feature design and specification
- Cloud computing / SaaS / IaaS / PaaS technologies
- Microsoft Office and Project
