Safety Officer

The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring all safety measures at construction sites to ensure a safe, compliant, and accident-free working environment. The role involves daily supervision of safety practices, conducting safety trainings, ensuring proper use of protective equipment, maintaining compliance with statutory norms, and promoting a culture of safety among workers and contractors.

**Responsibility Deliverable**
- Conduct regular inspections of work areas, equipment, and practices to identify potential hazards.
- Enforce the use of **safety gear** (helmet, safety shoes, gloves, jacket, harness, etc.) across the site.
- Maintain records of **safety equipment issuance and inspections**.
- Conduct safety inductions and periodic refresher trainings for all site personnel.
- Investigate and report any accidents, near-misses, or unsafe acts.
- Issue warnings and impose penalties as per the safety policy for repeated violations.
- Coordinate with Site In-charge, Project Engineers, and Contractors for implementation of corrective actions.
- Promote safety awareness through daily toolbox talks and visual communication.

**Tasks & Activities**
- **Daily Site Safety Inspection**

○ Inspect site areas for unsafe practices, hazards, or violations.

○ Check use and condition of safety equipment (helmets, gloves, boots, harness, etc.).

○ Ensure all workers have received proper induction and PPE.

○ Record observations in the **Daily Safety Logbook**.
- **Training & Awareness**

○ Conduct **Toolbox Talks** every morning before work begins.

○ Train new workers on emergency procedures, PPE usage, and hazard awareness.

○ Conduct refresher safety sessions weekly or monthly.
- **Incident Reporting & Investigation**

○ Report any accidents, near-misses, or unsafe conditions immediately.

○ Conduct investigation to determine cause and preventive measures.

○ Maintain accident records and share findings with management.
- **Compliance & Documentation**

○ Maintain safety checklists, audit reports, and inspection registers.

○ Ensure display of safety signages, emergency contact details, and first-aid information on site.

○ Keep records of PPE distribution and usage in the **Safety Equipment Logbook**.
- **Coordination & Enforcement**

○ Coordinate with site supervisors, contractors, and laborers to maintain compliance.

○ Issue **two warnings** before levying penalties for repeated safety violations.

○ Support Site Head and Project Manager in implementing corrective actions.
- **Emergency Preparedness**

○ Ensure fire extinguishers, first-aid kits, and evacuation routes are in place and accessible.

○ Conduct periodic safety drills for fire and accident response.

○ Liaise with local emergency services when necessary.
