The Senior Principal IT Data Architect will be responsible for leading the design, development, and implementation of the overall data architecture and data solutions for the organisation. This role involves analysing data requirements, defining data models, and working with the relevant stakeholders to ensure the integrity, security, and availability of data assets. The Senior Data Architect will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and translate them into effective data strategies and solutions.

**Key Roles and Responsibilities**:

- Develop robust, scalable, and secure data solutions, using technical expertise.
- Advise on analysis, identification of opportunities, and resolution of inefficiencies in the data design of the organisation.
- Partner with stakeholders, oversee data architecture, develop data-centric solutions, ensure compliance, and optimize performance to enable data-driven decision-making within an organisation.
- Develop and maintain the organisation's data architecture, including conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
- Partner with business stakeholders, data scientists, and IT teams to understand data requirements and translate them into data architecture designs.
- Accountable for guiding the definition of data retention, system decommissioning and archiving policies and processes.
- Work cross functionally to define data governance policies, data quality standards, and data management best practices.
- Advises on the evaluation and selection of appropriate data management technologies, tools, and platforms to support the organisation's data architecture and objectives.
- Partner with database administrators, data engineers, and other technical teams to ensure the efficient and reliable operation of data systems.
- Responsible for staying updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices related to data management, analytics, and data security.
- Provide guidance and support to development teams in implementing data-related solutions and adhering to data architecture standards.
- Ensure that data architecture designs, data flows, and data integration processes are documented for reference and future maintenance.

**Knowledge, Skills and Attributes**:

- Advanced broad knowledge of data architecture principles, data modelling techniques, and database design concepts.
- Broad expertise in data integration technologies, such as ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) and data consolidation strategies.
- Excellent understanding of data governance frameworks, data security, and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Excellent ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and deliver high-quality results within specified deadlines.
- Advanced broad knowledge of EA methodologies and frameworks, such as TOGAF, Gartner, Zachman, Bizbok, The Open Group Business Architecture Framework, BABOK, PMIPBA, etc.
- Excellent ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with team members, contributing to their success
- Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills to safeguard data integrity, security, and organisation
- Broad expertise in data security and privacy regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA) and experience implementing data protection measures
- Extensive knowledge of data modelling techniques, data warehousing concepts, and database management systems
- Excellent understanding of data governance, data integration, and data management best practices
- Expert in SQL and experience with database development and performance optimization
- Broad expertise in data visualization tools and techniques

**Academic Qualifications and Certifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or a related field
- Certification in data management or related areas (e.g., Certified Data Management Professional) is a plus
