Accounting Assistant

Role Overview

We have an exciting opportunity for someone to join us as a part-time (20hrs/week) accounting assistant. The role will work as part of a team responsible for performing general book-keeping and financial accounting tasks in accordance with financial accounting principles and group reporting requirements.

**Maviga N.A.** is a North American subsidiary of **ED&F Man Commodities**, a world leading trader of agricultural products including coffee, sugar, molasses, and animal feed. Maviga is a leading force in the origination, processing, and trading of dried edible pulses.

Key Accountabilities
- Enter accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Process incoming cash receipts by check, credit card, and EFT
- Receive, process, and reconcile statements
- Prepare farmer grower settlements
- Balance pulse levy reports for our various companies
- Reconcile good & service taxes
- Generate and review monthly reports
- Prepare and make bank deposits
- Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts
- Assist with preparation for annual audits
- Assist with preparation annual IRS tax preparation
- Ensure compliance with internal accounting procedures
- Maintain accurate records, including ledgers, journals, receipts, and invoices
- Perform administrative and other tasks as needed

Skills and Experience
- Understanding of GAAP accounting principles
- Familiarity with Quickbooks, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Outlook
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in entering financial data
- Outstanding math and research skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality
- Proficiency with 10-key typing and data entry
- Deadline-driven with excellent time management ability
- Bilingual skills a plus

**Education Requirements**
- 1-3 years of general accounting experience
- 1-3 years of experience working with accounts receivable and accounts payable
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field preferred
- Experience with SAP, Dynamics or similar ERP software suite preferred
