A Deputy Nursing Superintendent manages nursing services in a hospital, working under the Nursing Superintendent. They supervise nursing care, maintain records, and act as a liaison between management and nurses. Responsibilities
- **Nursing care**: Supervise nursing care in various departments, and ensure quality nursing care
- **Communication**: Act as a liaison between the Nursing Superintendent and nursing staff
- **Records**: Maintain records and reports of nursing services, and attendance and leave records for nursing staff
- **Equipment**: Conduct regular physical verification of hospital equipment and drugs
- **Staffing**: Assist with recruitment and staffing issues
- **Policies and procedures**: Interpret policies and procedures to nursing staff
- **Emergency calls**: Attend emergency calls related to nursing services
- **Reports**: Receive and review reports from Assistant Nursing Superintendents and supervisors
- **Planning**: Assist with planning and organizing nursing services
- **Acting as stand-in**: Officiate in the absence of the Nursing Superintendent
Additional duties
- Maintain confidential records of nursing personnel
- Assist with making the master duty roster for nursing personnel
- Keep senior nursing officials informed of ward happenings
- Assist with operational concerns
- Compile reports and submit them to concerned authorities
**Required Qualification & Skills**:
A Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) or a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN), along with significant experience as a registered nurse, strong leadership skills, excellent communication abilities, in-depth knowledge of hospital procedures, and the ability to manage a team of nurses effectively; often requiring several years of experience in a supervisory role within a healthcare facility. Key qualifications and skills:
- **Educational Background**:
- Diploma in General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
- Postgraduate degree in Nursing (may be preferred in some cases)
- **Experience**:
- Several years of experience as a registered nurse in a hospital setting
- Proven leadership experience in a nursing supervisory role
- **Skills**:
- **Clinical Expertise**: Thorough understanding of nursing practices, patient care protocols, and emergency procedures
- **Leadership**: Ability to motivate and manage a team of nurses, delegate tasks effectively, and resolve conflicts
- **Communication**: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with patients, families, other healthcare professionals, and administrative staff
- **Organizational Skills**: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage schedules, and maintain accurate documentation
- **Problem-solving**: Capability to analyze situations, identify issues, and implement solutions in a timely manner
