Junior Safety Officer

A Junior Safety Officer typically entails supporting the implementation of safety policies, conducting basic risk assessments, performing workplace inspections, providing safety training to employees, and assisting the senior safety officer in maintaining a safe working environment, often with a focus on learning and gaining experience in occupational health and safety regulations and practices; requiring a foundational understanding of safety procedures and a willingness to learn more advanced safety concepts.

**Key responsibilities may include**:

- **Safety Inspections and Audits**:
Regularly conducting walkthroughs of work areas to identify potential hazards, report safety concerns, and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- **Risk Assessments**:
Assisting in conducting basic risk assessments by identifying hazards, analyzing potential risks, and recommending preventative measures.
- **Safety Training Support**:
Delivering or assisting in delivering safety training sessions to employees on topics like personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, emergency procedures, and safe work practices.
- **Incident Reporting and Investigation**:
Supporting the investigation of workplace incidents by gathering information, analyzing root causes, and recommending corrective actions.
- **Data Collection and Analysis**:
Maintaining safety records, tracking safety performance metrics, and preparing reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
- **Communication and Awareness**:
Promoting a safety culture by communicating safety information to employees, posting safety signage, and participating in safety campaigns.
- **Compliance Monitoring**:
Ensuring adherence to relevant occupational health and safety regulations and company policies.
- **Collaboration with Departments**:
Working with other departments to identify and address safety concerns within their operations.

**Required Skills and Qualifications**:

- **Education**:
A bachelor's degree in safety science, environmental health, or a related field is preferred, but relevant experience may be considered.
- **Certifications**:
Basic safety certifications like OSHA 10-hour training or equivalent may be required.
- **Technical Skills**:
Basic understanding of occupational safety and health regulations, risk assessment methodologies, and incident investigation techniques.
- **Communication Skills**:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with employees at all levels.
- **Interpersonal Skills**:
Ability to build relationships, collaborate with diverse teams, and promote a positive safety culture.
- **Attention to Detail**:
Meticulous attention to detail to accurately identify and report safety hazards.
