**Jobs and Responsibilities**:

- **Coal Quality Analysis**:

- Regularly collect coal samples from various sources (e.g., incoming shipments, stockpiles).
- Conduct detailed analysis of coal properties, including:

- **Proximate analysis**: Moisture content, ash content, volatile matter, fixed carbon.
- **Ultimate analysis**: Elemental composition (carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfur, oxygen).
- **Calorific value**: Heat content of the coal.
- **Size distribution**: Particle size and uniformity.
- **Other properties**: Ash fusion temperature, Hardgrove Grindability Index (HGI), etc.
- Maintain accurate records of coal quality data and generate reports for plant management.
- **Coal Quality Control**:

- Establish and enforce quality standards for coal procurement.
- Monitor coal quality throughout the handling process, from delivery to combustion.
- Identify and address any deviations in coal quality that may affect plant performance.
- Collaborate with suppliers to ensure consistent coal quality.
- **Coal Handling and Storage**:

- Oversee coal handling operations to minimize losses and maintain quality.
- Manage coal stockpiles to prevent spontaneous combustion and degradation.
- Ensure proper storage conditions to preserve coal quality.
- **Optimization of Coal Usage**:

- Analyze coal quality data to optimize combustion efficiency in the DRI process.
- Recommend adjustments to plant operating parameters based on coal quality.
- Collaborate with operations personnel to improve overall plant performance.
- **Environmental Compliance**:

- Monitor sulfur content and other emissions related to coal combustion.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

**Requirements**:

- **Educational Qualification**:

- A degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field is typically required.
- **Technical Skills**:

- Knowledge of coal properties and analysis techniques.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment and procedures.
- Understanding of DRI process and its impact on coal quality.
- Ability to interpret data and generate reports.
- **Other Skills**:

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

**Additional Considerations**:

- Experience in a DRI power plant or a related industry is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of safety regulations and environmental standards is essential.
- Continuous learning and professional development are important to stay updated with the latest technologies and best practices in coal quality management.

By effectively managing coal quality, the Coal Quality Office contributes significantly to the efficiency, reliability, and environmental sustainability of a DRI power plant.
