
Associate - General Accounting

**Major Responsibilities**
The Associate - General Accounting & Financial Reporting is responsible for performing the day-to-day activities assigned in HBC team in support of the company’s General Accounting processes. This role requires high degree of customer orientation to meet the needs of internal customers / business partners with the global Finance team, as well as other internal partners including Financial Reporting and banner Finance teams. This individual will be responsible for the overall quality of service delivery for General Accounting team, including acting as an escalation point to resolve and correct any issues / concerns raised by the global Finance teams. The position will perform day-to-day activities as directed by the team lead including processing journal entries, period end close activities, completing account reconciliations, clearing aged line items from account reconciliations, reports, query management and variance analysis.
**Primary Role responsibilities include**:
- Responsible to performing daily, weekly, fortnightly, monthly, quarterly and year-end general accounting activities in a timely and efficient manner and in full compliance with HBC policies and procedures
- Achieve daily processing targets
- Ensure adherence to Accounting and reporting policies, internal control and audit requirements, and service standards at all times
- Analyze and research all discrepancies/exceptions in the process
- Effectively plan, prioritize day to day deliverables
- Consistently monitor key performance parameters of the process and identify and implement new ways to improve the quality of work as well as the means of working on processes
- Interact with Internal / External auditors as required
- Support accounting and reporting activities including:
- Processing of journal entries / accruals
- Set up / maintenance of prepaids and recurring entries
- Period end close activities, including account reconciliations
- Prepare Daily, Weekly, monthly and yearly reports
- Variance analysis for selected accounts
- Loyalty and Gift card accounting
- Query management - Internal / External
- Collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to enable the GIC to succeed as well as build the employer brand in the community
- Support effort in building a high performing team
- Trains, coaches, mentors and work with the peer group members and extend the support to the team leader
**Additional Role Responsibilities: India**
This role will also form an integral part of the HBC India Finance team in providing insights into building out a successful HBC GIC.
**Personal Characteristics**
**Professional Qualifications**
- Strong financial aptitude with minimum 2 - 4 for Associate years of work experience in General Accounting with MNCs/GICs, with preference to Retail industry focused on Accounting and Financial Reporting functions
- Experience in Oracle 11i, 12, 13 ERP (Oracle Fusion Preferred)
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel)
- Advanced excel knowledge for Senior Associates is mandatory (Preferred VBA Macro expertise)
- Demonstrated expertise in design and implementation of financial processes and technology including transition experience
- Demonstrated success in Leading and managing process delivery and supporting multi-functional business units
**Office Hours**:
- This role will be expected to work a “North American” shift pattern, approximately 9 hours during non-month end close and extended hours during month end close week.
