An ICU Staff Nurse is a highly skilled and experienced registered nurse who provides specialized care to critically ill patients in an Intensive Care Unit (ICU). This role requires a deep understanding of complex medical conditions, advanced nursing techniques, and the ability to manage rapidly changing patient situations.

**Key Responsibilities**:
Patient Assessment and Monitoring:

- Conducts comprehensive assessments of patients' conditions, including vital signs, neurological status, and organ function.
- Continuously monitors patients for changes in their condition, recognizing early signs of deterioration.
- Utilizes advanced monitoring equipment to track patient parameters like heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and intracranial pressure.

Medication Administration:

- Administers medications accurately and timely, including intravenous medications, titrated drips, and complex drug regimens.
- Calculates medication dosages, monitors for adverse reactions, and adjusts dosages as needed.

Procedural Skills:

- Performs invasive procedures like inserting central lines, arterial lines, and urinary catheters.
- Assists with complex medical procedures, such as intubation, chest tube insertion, and ventilator management.
- Performs diagnostic tests like arterial blood gas analysis and point-of-care testing.

Critical Care Interventions:

- Responds to medical emergencies, such as cardiac arrest or respiratory failure, by initiating life-saving interventions.
- Manages complex medical equipment like ventilators, dialysis machines, and extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO).
- Provides advanced respiratory therapy, including suctioning and administering oxygen therapy.
- Patient and Family Education:

- Educates patients and their families about their condition, treatment plan, and self-care measures.
- Provides emotional support and addresses concerns and questions.

Documentation and Communication:

- Maintains accurate and detailed medical records, including documenting assessments, interventions, and patient responses.
- Communicates effectively with the healthcare team, including physicians, other nurses, and therapists, to ensure coordinated care.
- Participates in interdisciplinary rounds and care conferences.

Required Qualifications:

- Registered Nurse (RN) License: Valid and current RN license in the state of practice.
- Critical Care Certification: Preferred, but not always required.
