Job Title: Oracle Database Administrator (L1-L2)
Key Responsibilities:
1. Database Monitoring and Maintenance:
- Monitor the performance, health, and availability of Oracle databases using monitoring tools.
- Perform routine database maintenance tasks such as backups, log reviews, and space management.
- Ensure databases are running efficiently and address basic performance issues as needed.
2. Backup and Recovery:
- Execute and monitor database backups using tools such as RMAN (Recovery Manager).
- Perform routine recovery operations when needed, ensuring database integrity.
- Follow documented processes for recovery testing and reporting.
3. Security and User Management:
- Manage user accounts, roles, and privileges in accordance with company security policies.
- Implement basic security measures such as password policies and user auditing.
- Monitor security logs for unauthorized access attempts and escalate to L3 as needed.
4. Database Installations and Configurations:
- Assist in the installation and basic configuration of Oracle databases.
- Ensure correct configuration of database settings for optimal performance.
5. Support and Troubleshooting (L1-L2):
- Investigate and resolve basic to intermediate database problems, escalating complex issues to L3.
- Respond to database alerts and warnings, performing initial troubleshooting steps.
6. Automation and Scripting (Basic):
- Write simple SQL queries and shell scripts to automate routine tasks (e.g., backups, user management).
- Execute existing automation scripts and ensure they run as expected.
- Collaborate with senior DBAs to implement new automation solutions.
7. Patch Management and Updates:
- Assist with patching and updating Oracle databases as per organizational policies.
- Perform patch testing in development environments before deploying to production.
8. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain documentation related to database configurations, tasks, and troubleshooting steps.
- Prepare and deliver routine reports on database health, space usage, and backup status.
- Assist in documenting issues and their resolution for knowledge base entries.
**Required Skills**:
- Technical Skills:
- Basic understanding of Oracle database administration (e.g., Oracle 12c, 19c).
- Familiarity with Oracle tools such as RMAN, Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM), and SQLPlus.
- Basic knowledge of SQL and PL/SQL to run queries and troubleshoot database issues.
- Understanding of database backup, restore, and recovery processes.
- Monitoring and Performance:
- Experience with database monitoring tools to track database performance and alerts.
- Ability to identify and respond to common performance issues such as slow queries, deadlocks, and locking.
- Security and User Management:
- Knowledge of managing database user accounts, roles, and privileges.
- Basic understanding of Oracle database security concepts and best practices.
- Operating Systems and Scripting:
- Familiarity with Unix/Linux operating systems, including basic command-line usage.
- Basic scripting knowledge (Shell, Perl, or Python) for routine task automation.
Experience and Qualifications:
- 1-3 years of experience working in database administration, preferably in Oracle environments.
- Experience with basic database troubleshooting and maintenance tasks.
- Oracle certifications such as Oracle Certified Associate (OCA) or Oracle Database 12c Administrator Certified Associate are a plus.
Additional Competencies:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Good communication skills to interact with internal teams and escalate issues effectively.
- Ability to work in a structured, process-driven environment, following SOPs and best practices.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and methodologies.
