Position Summary

This position will work closely with all members of the Software Team, internal customers, and the IT Operations Group. With Engineering Managers, Leads and individual engineers the emphasis will be on the design, creation and optimization of database environments as part of software projects or initiatives. With the Operations group, the focus will be on providing technical support and guidance on the installation, configuration, and maintenance of Microsoft SQL Servers used to support the global server and network infrastructure. Within the Database Team, this position will collaborate on establishing and sharing database best practices. The This position will require some coaching skills to train new DBA hire in New Delhi. This role will require strong technical database skills as well as strong verbal and written communication skills.

Essential Functions

Database environment support
- Support, manage and troubleshoot all Microsoft SQL servers globally. This includes monitoring database replication, ensuring automated processes are running successfully, monitoring and configuring SQL backups, and upgrading or patching as needed. Environments include
- Microsoft SQL Servers supporting Microsoft products (e.g. SharePoint, Ops Manager, etc.)
- Cloud database environments (PaaS, IaaS)
- Coach new DBA hire in New Delhi
- Document all the existing process for Database Operations

Provide database support and expertise to Software development and implementation teams including:

- Installing and configuring SQL Server
- Coordinating with the Infrastructure team to automate installation and configuration of SQL Server
- Assisting database capacity planning and database tuning and optimization
- Ensuring proper implementation of Microsoft SQL Server replication on projects
- Coordinating with Operations Team to ensure required test and development environments are established at the start of projects and removed at the end of projects
- Creating and managing deployment scripts for database objects

Database technology planning
- Contribute to SQL Server inventory planning working with Database Ent Services Manager, Enterprise Infrastructure Sr. Manager and Engineering Managers
- Evaluate and implement additional technologies related to Microsoft SQL Server to improve the performance, reliability and stability of Bain’s database environment
- Participate in projects to evaluate opportunities for enhancing Bain’s use of database technologies, including Microsoft SQL Server and cloud database platforms

Database best practices
- Document and communicate best demonstrated practices for database objects, development and maintenance to teams working with databases
- Work with Engineering Managers and Architects to conduct reviews of database objects and database architecture on each software project. This includes tracking compliance of standards and best demonstrated practices.
- Maintain current knowledge of existing and potential Microsoft SQL Server capabilities and cloud database technology opportunities

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's degree in MIS, Computer Science, or Business
- 3 to 5 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft SQL Server database replication is required
- Experience with Microsoft SQL Server
- Attention to detail and aptitude for analytical problem resolution
- Ability to work independently and with teams on complex problems
- Strong oral communication skills
- High performance and standards as demonstrated by academic or previous job experience
- Good knowledge of Azure SQL implementations is desired
- Experience with PowerShell scripting for Database Administration is desired
- Knowledge of GitHub, DevOps and Terraform automation is desired.
