**Overview**

We seek a Director - General Counsel with experience in the Tech/SaaS industry based in Bangalore, India, to lead our global legal function. This role is both strategic and hands-on, providing you the opportunity to spearhead our global legal strategy. As General Counsel, you will play a crucial role in managing the legal aspects of our organization, ensuring the legal health of the company, providing strategic guidance on legal matters, and contributing to the overall success of our growing startup.

You will work across and own the full spectrum of general counsel functions, including corporate compliance, customer-related legal lifecycle, telecom carriers’ related legal lifecycle, and collaborating with the senior leadership team.

**Responsibilities**
- Oversee and manage all legal aspects of the company, including corporate governance, intellectual property, compliance, customer and telecom carrier contracts, and litigation.
- Provide legal analysis and counsel on various legal, telecom, and regulatory issues.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex commercial agreements and transactions.
- Collaborate with and advise the senior leadership team, ensuring alignment with business strategies and legal requirements.
- Lead the legal team in supporting various business functions, including sales, customer success, IT, marketing, HR, carrier relations, and finance.
- Establish and manage external counsel relationships regionally.
- Optimize external legal support to improve the cost structure for the company.
- Keep abreast of legislative changes that may affect the company and its affiliates.
- Support with compliance around GDPR, CCPA, SOC, country-specific data residency, etc.
- Recruit, train, and mentor legal staff. Establish clear roles and responsibilities, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
- Create and implement strategic plans for the legal department aligning with the company's objectives.

**Background**
- Proven experience as a General Counsel or similar role and 5+ years as a leader, preferably in a SaaS or technology company.
- Education from a reputed law school and admission to practice law in relevant jurisdictions.
- Experience building, managing, and mentoring legal teams
- Strong understanding of corporate law, intellectual property, and commercial contracts.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proven ability to create legal defensive or proactive strategies.
