Department
You will be part of Manufacturing Operation-India, Global Supply Chain, Cement who supports Capital and Service for Materials, Warehouse & Logistics. By joining this team, you will have the chance to work in an international environment involving different cultures and different challenges. This department works closely with both our internal and external customers to ensure FLSmidth equipment’s on time delivery and customer satisfaction. You will be located in the Arakkonam plant.

Role
The Machinist role at Arakkonam involves the ‘performing basic machining tasks, including operating standard machinery, inspecting parts, and assisting senior machinists.’

Your Responsibilities
- Operate basic machining equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, or drills under supervision.
- Follow established procedures to produce parts to specification.
- Perform simple setups with guidance from senior machinists.
- Use basic measuring tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to inspect finished parts for dimensional accuracy.
- Clean and maintain tools and machines to ensure optimal performance.
- Assist in replacing worn tools, inserts, or cutting fluids as needed.
- Complete production logs, job travelers, or inspection reports as required.
- Follow work orders and document progress accurately.
- Follow all safety protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain a clean and organized work area to prevent accidents.
- Seek guidance from senior machinists and supervisors to improve knowledge and productivity.

Key Accountabilities
- Assist in the preparation of raw materials, including cutting, measuring, and loading onto machines.
- Report any defects or deviations from specifications to the supervisor.
- Actively participate in training sessions to develop machining skills.
- Follow all company policies and industry standards for machine operation, maintenance, and safety.

What you bring
- Basic understanding of machining processes and mechanical drawings.
- Ability to use standard measuring instruments for quality checks.
- Willingness to learn and improve technical skills through hands-on experience.
- Attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks.
- Manual dexterity and ability to handle tools and materials weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working in a high-noise, fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Machine shop or manufacturing floor with exposure to metal shavings, lubricants, and heavy machinery.
- Strict adherence to safety guidelines is mandatory.

Education Qualification
ITI or Diploma or equivalent. Basic training or certification in machining (e.g., vocational school or apprenticeship) is preferred.

Experience
2-5 years of experience in machining or a related field. Familiarity with basic machine tools and their functions is an advantage.
