Job description

We are looking for a Librarian who is responsible for managing the school library, including its resources, collections, and services, to support the educational and recreational reading needs of students and staff. This role involves organizing, cataloging, and maintaining library materials, guiding students and staff in research, and fostering a love for reading and learning within the school community.

**Location: Ottiambakkam, Chennai.**
**Note: Transportation facilities are provided within a "12 km" radius of the school.**

Roles & Responsibilities
- Organize, catalog, and maintain the library’s collection of books, digital resources, periodicals, and other materials.
- Develop and implement library policies, procedures, and systems to ensure an efficient and user-friendly environment.
- Maintain a quiet and respectful library atmosphere conducive to study and research.
- Assist students and staff in locating and selecting appropriate books and resources for academic and recreational purposes.
- Provide guidance on research techniques, citation methods, and information literacy.
- Promote reading and literacy through school-wide programs, book clubs, reading challenges, and events like author visits or book fairs.
- Select and acquire new materials, including books, digital resources, and multimedia materials, in alignment with the curriculum and student interests.
- Evaluate and weed out outdated or damaged materials to maintain a current and appealing collection.
- Collaborate with teachers to ensure that library resources align with and support curriculum needs.
- Manage and promote digital resources, such as e-books, online databases, and educational software.
- Provide instruction to students and staff on using the library’s digital resources and tools.
- Keep records of library transactions, including checkouts, returns, and overdue materials.
- Prepare and manage the library budget, keeping track of expenditures and maintaining necessary records.
- Prepare reports on library usage and programs for administration as needed.
- Develop and deliver workshops or classes on library skills, research methods, and media literacy.
- Organize events, displays, and other activities to inspire students to read and engage with library resources.
- Foster an inclusive environment where students feel welcomed and encouraged to explore and learn.

Skills and Qualifications
- Proven working experience as a librarian or in a library setting is preferred.
- Patience and flexibility.
- Proficiency with library management software, online databases, and digital resources.
- Strong communication skills.

Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Library Science and Information Science.
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science.

Experience
- Two years of experience.
- Freshers can also apply.

Pay: ₹225,000.00 - ₹300,000.00 per year
