This is a deeply collaborative role, working with editors, researchers, curators, and strategists, where your design decisions will shape the narrative and impact of the book.

Key Responsibilities:

- Design the full visual language and layout system for a large-format, content-rich book
- Translate complex structures (chapters, essays, case studies, imagery, footnotes) into elegant and accessible formats
- Develop typographic systems, page grids, stylesheets, and visual motifs
- Create moodboards, style guides, and cover design options
- Work closely with editors, content teams, and creative directors to bring the narrative vision to life
- Manage production-ready files and handover to printers or developers
- Ensure precision in typographic rhythm, image handling, and layout flow
- Collaborate with printers to oversee paper selection, proofing, and press checks if required

Required Skills & Qualifications:

- 3-5+ years of experience in publication or editorial design, with at least one long-format book or equivalent project in your portfolio
- Mastery of Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop (Figma a plus)
- Sophisticated understanding of layout systems, typographic nuance, and information hierarchy
- Experience preparing and packaging files for high-end offset printing
- A strong design portfolio demonstrating long-format print work (link required)
- Ability to work independently while managing feedback cycles and multiple stakeholders
- Deep attention to visual detail, pacing, and spatial harmony

Good to Have:

- Experience working on cultural, academic, or design-focused books
- Knowledge of print production (paper stocks, finishes, binding, file types)
- Interest in narrative structure, visual storytelling, or archival design
- Comfort with timelines, editorial calendars, and iterative content development
