**Conceptualized in the year 2004 as a philanthropic initiative for the Eastern and North-Eastern parts
of India and the neighboring countries, the Tata Medical Center (TMC) started operations in Kolkata
on May 16, 2011. The hospital is governed by a charitable trust - Tata Medical Centre Trust. It is an
integrated Oncology facility with well-trained professional staff and equipped with modern facilities
and the most contemporary medical equipment. The hospital was designed by Cannon Design, a
renowned architectural firm from North America. It is located on 13 acres of land at New Town in
Kolkata, West Bengal.

serves all sections of the society, with 75% of the infrastructure earmarked for subsidized treatment

for the underprivileged sections. It provides a wide spectrum of services from diagnosis and therapy

to rehabilitation and palliative support. The Institution’s objective is to excel in service, education and

research.

Tata Medical Center, Kolkata, has strived to be one of the leading cancer care and research

institutions in the country and has benefited West Bengal as well as the adjoining states and

neighboring countries.

TMC is also running many academic programmes and has entered into institutional collaborations in
education, research, and outreach programmes in the field of interdisciplinary medical, research and
technology.

**Scientific Officer

**Qualification**:M.Sc in Biological Sciences or higher qualification with experience in Molecular
Biology Techniques.

**Experience**:Minimum 2 Years post qualification experience working in a reputed laboratory/
institutes in the field of molecular genetics (Clinical Diagnostics or Research Projects)

**Brief Job Description**
- Significant experience in molecular diagnostics laboratory with hands on experience in

different molecular hematological techniques such as manual and automated DNA/RNA
extraction, nucleic acid amplification tests such real-time PCR, all other PCRs, gel
electrophoresis, Sanger Sequencing, Fragment Analysis and NGS.

demonstrate good laboratory practices at all times.
- The person should be prepared to do on calls including those at night and be prepared to

work on Holidays / Sundays in Molecular Genetics.

**GENERAL DUTY:
- Work as a team and share roles and responsibilities
- Take additional responsibilities to deal with staff shortages or increased workload
- Be prepared to stay beyond the normal working hours to deal with important routine or

emergency work
- Maintain good documentation of their work
- Maintain and improve their technical and scientific competency through regular training

sessions
- Be ready to teach and train others from time to time
- Maintain a professional atmosphere within work areas
- Be prepared to take on managerial responsibilities such as those involving laboratory audit,

inventory management, quality assurance, equipment maintenance, health and safety, duty
- rota development, writing standard operating procedures, human resource allocation in
different sections of the laboratory etc.
- Get involved and assist the laboratory in basic or clinical research. This may involve doing

additional laboratory bench work or writing manuscript for scientific articles.

**Desirable Attributes**
- Ability to work in an unstructured work situation with multiple demands.

- Experience with DNA sequencing, trouble shooting skills, especially ability to optimize PCR,

deal with and prevent amplicon contamination and develop new in-house molecular biology
assays.
- Computer skills, knowledge of laboratory information systems and experience with Internal

Quality Control and External Quality Assurance programmes are desirable.
