**Officer in Microbiology**

**Qualification**:
**Essential**:M Sc in Microbiology/ Bio-Technology (with concentration in the field of Medical
Microbiology)
**Desirable**: PhD in Microbiology (with concentration in the field of Medical Microbiology)

**About the Department of Microbiology at Tata Medical Center, Kolkata**:
The Microbiology department aims to provide patients and doctors with timely, clinically relevant,
and quality assured diagnostic test results in Bacteriology, Mycobacteriology, Serology, Virology,
Mycology, Parasitology for in-patients, out-patients or other external clients at an affordable price.
The laboratory is committed to provide an intellectually stimulating, safe, secure, educationally
friendly work environment to its staffs and scientific officers, and concentrates on continuous
quality improvement, research and development.

**_Job description of the Scientific Officer in Microbiology: _**

1. Clinical sample processing
2. Microscopy
- Gram stain, ZN stain, etc
3. Bacterial identification by standard microbiology methods: manual or automated
4. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing: manual and automated methods
5. ELISA: manual and automated
6. DNA, RNA extraction
7. PCR: end point, real-time, manual and automated
8. Designing PCR primers and probes
9. DNA sequencing: Sanger, Next Generation Sequencing
10. Laboratory data entry, data analysis, manuscript preparation
11. Weekend duties, holiday duties, shift duties
12. Development, standardization, validation of new tests
13. Taking theory and practical classes for students; presentation in departmental meetings
14. Quality control
