**Reports To**: Billing Manager/Head of Finance
**Job Summary**:
The IP Billing and Insurance Officer is responsible for managing the billing processes for in-patient (IP) services and handling insurance-related procedures. This role ensures accuracy in billing, compliance with insurance policies, and effective communication with patients and insurance providers.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **In-Patient Billing Management**:
- Prepare and manage all in-patient billing activities.
- Ensure accurate documentation of services rendered and timely preparation of patient bills.
- Review patient files and ensure that all services provided are billed correctly.
- **Insurance Claim Processing**:
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain pre-authorizations for in-patient services.
- Process and submit insurance claims promptly and accurately.
- Follow up with insurance providers for pending claims and resolve any discrepancies.
- **Patient Communication**:
- Explain billing processes and insurance coverage details to patients.
- Address patient queries and concerns related to billing and insurance.
- **Compliance and Documentation**:
- Ensure billing procedures comply with hospital policies and insurance regulations.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient billing records and insurance documents.
- Assist in audits and ensure proper documentation is available.
- **Coordination with Departments**:
- Work closely with clinical departments to ensure all services are recorded and billed.
- Coordinate with the finance team for reconciliations and reporting.
- **Dispute Resolution**:
- Handle billing disputes and discrepancies with patients and insurance companies.
- Negotiate and resolve issues regarding denied claims.
- **Reporting**:
- Prepare regular reports on billing and insurance activities for management review.
- Track key performance indicators (KPIs) such as claim approval rates and billing turnaround times.
**Qualifications**:
- **Education**: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- **Experience**:
- 5+ years of experience in hospital billing or insurance claims.
- Familiarity with healthcare billing software and insurance procedures.
- **Skills**:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Proficiency in MS Office and billing software.
