An HMC operator, which stands for Horizontal Machining Center operator, is a skilled manufacturing professional responsible for setting up, operating, and monitoring a computer numerically controlled (CNC) Horizontal Machining Center to perform precise machining operations like milling, drilling, and boring on various metal components, following detailed blueprints and work instructions, while maintaining quality standards and production targets. Key responsibilities of an HMC operator:

- **Machine setup**:

- Load raw materials onto the machine based on work orders and specifications.
- Install and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding devices according to the machining plan.
- Set up machine parameters including speeds, feeds, and tool offsets using CNC programming.
- Verify machine accuracy through calibration checks.
- **Operation and monitoring**:

- Start the machining process by initiating the CNC program.
- Continuously monitor the machining operation, checking for quality issues like dimensional accuracy, surface finish, and potential tool wear.
- Make necessary adjustments to machine settings as needed to maintain optimal production.
- Detect and troubleshoot any machine malfunctions, alarms, or errors, and take corrective actions.
