**Responsibilities for System Administrator**:

- Responsible for the maintenance, configuration, and reliable operation of computer systems, network servers, and virtualization
- Install and upgrade computer components and software, manage virtual servers, and integrate automation processes
- Troubleshoot hardware and software errors by running diagnostics, documenting problems and resolutions, prioritizing problems, and assessing impact of issues
- Provide documentation and technical specifications to IT staff for planning and implementing new or upgrades of IT infrastructure
- Perform or delegate regular backup operations and implement appropriate processes for data protection, disaster recovery, and failover procedures
- Responsible for capacity, storage planning, and database performance

**Qualifications for System Administrator**:

- Associate or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required
- 3-5 years of database, network administration, or system administration experience
- System administration and IT certifications in Linux, Microsoft, or other network related fields are a plus
- Working knowledge of virtualization, VMWare, or equivalent
- Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols
- Experience with scripting and automation tools
- A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategy and plans
- Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.

**Skills**:

- Operating systems: System Administrators must be proficient in managing and administering various operating systems, including Windows Server, Linux, and Unix. They should be familiar with installation, configuration, security, updates, and maintenance of these systems.
- Virtualization technologies: System Administrators need to have experience with virtualization technologies such as VMware or Hyper-V. They should know how to create, manage, and maintain virtual machines, configure virtual networks, and perform backups and disaster recovery for virtual environments.
- Network administration: System Administrators must have a strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, routing, switching, and firewall technologies. They should know how to configure and troubleshoot network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, and load balancers.
- Storage systems: System Administrators should have experience in managing storage systems, including SAN, NAS, and RAID configurations. They should understand storage protocols like iSCSI, NFS, and SMB and be able to configure and manage storage devices.
- Security: System Administrators should be familiar with security best practices, including access control, authentication, encryption, firewalls, and intrusion detection and prevention. They should know how to conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing and remediate any security issues.
- Scripting and automation: System Administrators should have experience with scripting and automation tools such as PowerShell, Bash, or Python. They should know how to automate routine tasks and perform system configuration and management tasks.
- Backup and disaster recovery: System Administrators should have experience with backup and disaster recovery procedures, including backups, replication, and restore operations. They should understand different backup strategies and be able to implement and maintain disaster recovery plans.
