The Cath Lab Staff Nurse is responsible for providing high-quality nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and interventional procedures in the cardiac catheterization lab. The role involves assisting the medical team during procedures, monitoring patient conditions, preparing patients, and ensuring their safety and comfort. The nurse will also be responsible for post-procedure care, education, and collaboration with the healthcare team to provide optimal patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
**Pre-Procedure Care**:
- Prepare the patient for the cardiac catheterization procedure by explaining the process, obtaining informed consent, and ensuring the patient is comfortable.
- Verify patient identification, procedure details, and allergies before the procedure.
- Assist in setting up the required equipment and sterile field for the procedure.
- Monitor vital signs and patient condition prior to the procedure.
- **Assistance During Procedures**:
- Assist cardiologists, interventional radiologists, and other healthcare providers during diagnostic and interventional procedures (e.g., angiography, angioplasty, stent placement, pacemaker insertion).
- Ensure proper positioning of the patient and support the sterile field during the procedure.
- Monitor patient’s vital signs, oxygen saturation, and ECG during the procedure.
- Administer medications and contrast agents as prescribed and within scope of practice.
- Assist with managing complications such as arrhythmias, hypotension, or allergic reactions.
- **Post-Procedure Care**:
- Provide immediate post-procedure care by monitoring vital signs, assessing the puncture site, and ensuring patient stability.
- Educate patients and families about post-procedure care, medication, and any lifestyle changes required.
- Document and report all nursing care provided and any unusual findings.
- Assist with the transport of the patient to recovery areas or inpatient wards if necessary.
- **Patient Monitoring and Documentation**:
- Continuously monitor the patient's vital signs, oxygen levels, and cardiac rhythms.
- Accurately document all patient interactions, assessments, medications, and interventions in the medical record.
- Provide detailed and accurate handover reports to other healthcare professionals when required.
- **Equipment and Environment Management**:
- Ensure the cleanliness, sterilization, and proper functioning of all Cath Lab equipment.
- Ensure that necessary instruments, supplies, and medications are available and appropriately managed.
- Maintain a safe, sterile environment throughout the procedure.
- **Collaboration with Medical Team**:
- Work closely with cardiologists, surgeons, radiologists, and other healthcare providers to deliver optimal patient care.
- Participate in patient care discussions and team meetings to contribute to treatment planning and post-procedure follow-up.
- **Continuous Learning and Professional Development**:
- Keep current with advancements in cardiology and Cath Lab procedures.
- Participate in ongoing training, workshops, and certifications to ensure competence in the Cath Lab setting.
- Follow institutional protocols, guidelines, and safety standards.
Required Qualifications:
**Education**:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing or DGNM from an accredited institution.
- **Experience**:
- Experience with diagnostic and interventional procedures in the Cath Lab is preferred.
- **Skills**:
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to changes in patient status.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- **Licensing**:
- Valid nursing license.
Pay: ₹250,000.00 - ₹350,000.00 per year
