**Purpose of the Role**

To help lead Nature India and allied Nature Portfolio projects in India under the direction of the Chief Editor.

Working with the Chief Editor, the Associate Editor will manage daily and weekly operations, to commission, edit and publish important stories for the Indian science community. This individual must have a good sense of news, a passion for science and a desire to help elevate the Indian scientific community, for a global audience.

The Associate Editor will also support and represent the organisation, like attending meetings with Springer Nature staff and leaders in the scientific community. This individual may play a role in regional events, including programming and moderation.

Nature India showcases the latest news and research from the region and helps local scientists advance their careers by curating information on jobs and events. The editorial team regularly digests top papers published by authors from Indian scientific institutions to bring news to the local (and global) scientific community. Through in-depth features and commentaries, leading members of the scientific community, scientists and journalists reflect on contemporary issues affecting India’s science.

**Responsibilities
- **Identify, commission, write, edit and publish content for Nature India in line with its editorial strategy and in consultation with the Chief Editor**:

- **Create and manage an editorial calendar that ensures consistent article posting and an ideal content mix to ensure growing site traffic**:

- **Produce Nature-quality content, on deadline**:

- **Drive Nature India’s social media and community engagement with the intention of growing social and site audience**:

- **Suggest key/timely topics of interest for sponsored special issues/collections**:

- **Help the sales team identify and create branded content and other commercial projects**:

- **Maintain key relationships with established contacts of Nature India in academic, governmental or funder institutions**:

- **Attend relevant meetings, virtually, in-office or off-site, as determined by the Chief Editor**

**Experience, Skills & Qualifications**

**Experience**
- **At least 5 years of editorial experience in science journalism, as both writer and editor, preferably in India**:

- **Experience with editorial websites, including working with a CMS and using basic analytics**:

- **Experience with social media and audience engagement**:

- **Proven track record of developing winning articles for audiences**

**Skills**
- **Proficiency in commissioning, reporting and editing science articles**:

- **Adept at CMS-based publishing and the use of editorial websites**:

- **Social media management**:

- **Ability to meet news deadlines and to work with a team across time zones**

**Qualifications**
- **Journalism or mass communication graduate**:

- **Undergrad or above science degree desirable**
