**Core responsibilities of Associate Editor**:
1. Manages and grows a publishing program, delivering competitive and profitable products in line with Publishing Unit strategy.

2. Learns and performs key publishing acquisition activities with development guidance from manager / peers, including:

- Soliciting, reading and evaluating proposals and manuscripts to determine commercial viability, audience, market and suitability for the list_
- Researching market trends to identify new authors, new titles and new products_
- Managing the backlist associated with the assigned areas, maintaining profitable relationships with existing authors, book series editors and editorial board members _
- Supporting authors and editors in developing their book projects_
- Negotiating publishing contract terms_
- Supporting manager with editorial task assistance, as needed_
- Remaining a point of contact for authors/editors throughout publication process_

3. Builds an understanding of editorial policies and processes, ensuring they are consistently applied across activities and goals set by editorial management are met

4. Develops a network of authors/editors through various engagement activities within the research community

5. Continually promotes and builds the brand through virtual interactions as well as some travel to academic conferences and campus visits, as appropriate

6. Maintains continuous cooperation and dialogue with editorial project management, marketing, production and other relevant departments concerning individual projects as well as general questions of mutual interest

**Core qualifications, experience and skills of Associate Editor**:
1. Educated to degree level or equivalent (preferably in a relevant field of study)

2. An interest in and understanding of how academic publishing and communities function

3. Good verbal, written and presentation skills

4. Numerate and IT systems-literate, with a sharp eye for detail

5. Able to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and be able to work on their own initiative

6. Resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries

7. Excellent team-working and relationship building skills

8. Able to work independently within a (virtual) team environment.
