Job Description: Plant Head – Pharmacy Catalyst Manufacturing & Precious Metal Recovery

Job Summary:
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Plant In-Charge to lead our Pharma Catalyst Manufacturing and Precious Metal Recovery operations. This role demands a strategic thinker with strong technical expertise, operational leadership, and financial acumen to manage end-to-end plant activities while being accountable for Profit and Loss (P&L). The ideal candidate will ensure optimal production efficiency, regulatory compliance, safety, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities:

Operational and Asset Management
Having in-depth knowledge about the pharmaceutical sector's catalyst needs for various reactions and the challenges associated with maintaining activity, selectivity, and productivity of pharmaceutical catalysts, such as precious metal (Pt, Pd, Ag, Ru, Rh)- supported catalysts.
Deactivation of the catalysts, the attrition of the precious metals, and losses due to various other reasons.
Providing guidelines for R&D to develop new catalysts and provide world-class support to pharma catalyst management.
Having a clear understanding of processes for catalyst preparation and metal recovery, and being able to develop infrastructure for the requirements.
Oversee daily operations of catalyst manufacturing and metal recovery processes.
Ensure production targets, quality standards, and delivery timelines are met.
Implement lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Technical Oversight

Develop a strategy and drive business development for catalyst manufacturing and metal recovery, focusing on catalyst management.
Directs the R&D team to meet business requirements
Develops infrastructure to meet the manufacturing needs.
Supervise process engineering, equipment maintenance, and technology upgrades.
Troubleshoot complex manufacturing issues and optimise recovery yields.
Collaborate with R&D for process innovation and product development. Develops a network with various laboratories across the globe to identify technologies to support business.

Financial Accountability

Own the plant’s P&L, budgeting, and cost control measures.
Analyse financial performance and implement strategies to improve margins.
Monitor inventory, procurement, and resource utilisation to reduce waste and cost.
Proposes new business models like metal leasing etc., to create win-win situations.

Compliance & Safety
 

- Ensure adherence to GMP, EHS, and regulatory standards (FDA, EPA, etc.).- Conduct regular audits and risk assessments.- Promote a culture of safety and sustainability.
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a multidisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, and operators.- Foster a high-performance culture with clear KPIs and accountability.- Manage staffing, training, and succession planning.
Stakeholder Engagement
Liaise with senior management, suppliers, and customers.
Prepare and present operational and financial reports.
Support strategic planning and business development initiatives.

 

Master’s degree/ Doctorate in chemistry or Chemical Engineering or related field.
10+ years of experience in the precious catalyst manufacturing and metal refining industry with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
Chemical/pharma manufacturing experience could be an added advantage. - Proven track record in managing P&L and driving operational excellence.- Strong knowledge of catalyst chemistry, metal recovery processes, and regulatory frameworks.- Excellent leadership, marketing , communication, and analytical skills.

Preferred Skills:

Experience with ERP systems and data-driven decision-making.
Certification in Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar methodologies.
Exposure to international standards and import & export compliance.
Government regulations related the above business.
