Responsibilities:

  • Perform safety analyses and risk assessments for nuclear facilities, including reactors, waste management systems, and radiation shielding.
  • Develop, review, and update safety procedures and protocols to mitigate hazards and minimize risks to personnel, the public, and the environment.
  • Conduct inspections and audits to assess compliance with safety regulations and identify areas for improvement.
  • Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety concerns to determine root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with engineers, physicists, and other stakeholders to evaluate designs, modifications, and operational procedures for safety implications.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to facility operators and staff on safety-related issues, including radiation protection measures and emergency response protocols.
  • Stay informed about regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and technological advancements in nuclear safety.
  • Participate in emergency preparedness and response activities, including developing emergency plans and conducting drills.
  • Interface with regulatory authorities and participate in regulatory inspections and licensing processes as necessary.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Previous experience in nuclear safety engineering or a related field is desirable.
  • Knowledge of nuclear physics, reactor theory, and radiation protection principles.
  • Familiarity with computer modeling and simulation tools used in nuclear safety analysis.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying technical information and collaborating with diverse teams.
  • Understanding of regulatory requirements and standards governing nuclear facilities.
  • Commitment to promoting a strong safety culture and adherence to ethical principles.
  • Professional certifications or licensure may be advantageous.
