Key Responsibilities:
Teaching and Curriculum Development:
- Advanced Teaching: Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in architecture, with an emphasis on specialized topics in architectural design, theory, urban planning, sustainable architecture, digital technologies, or building systems.
- Design Studio Leadership: Lead advanced design studios at the graduate level, mentoring students through complex design challenges and providing critical feedback to elevate their design skills and thinking.
- Curriculum Leadership: Take an active role in shaping and advancing the architecture curriculum by developing new courses, suggesting improvements, and ensuring the curriculum stays relevant and aligned with current trends in architecture practice and research.
Research and Scholarly Activity:
- Research Leadership: Conduct independent, high-impact research in areas related to architecture, with a focus on innovative design solutions, sustainable building practices, smart cities, or architectural theory. Areas of interest might include but are not limited to urban design, material science, digital fabrication, preservation, or environmental design.
- Publications: Publish articles, papers, and books in respected, peer-reviewed academic journals and other scholarly outlets. Present research at national and international conferences.
- Research Funding: Lead efforts to secure research grants, collaborate with industry partners, and apply for funding from public and private sources to support architectural research.
- Research Mentorship: Mentor graduate students and junior faculty in research projects and academic publishing, fostering an environment of inquiry and critical thinking.
Service and Academic Leadership:
- Faculty Mentorship: Provide mentorship to junior faculty members, supporting their development as teachers, researchers, and professionals within the field of architecture.
- Departmental Leadership: Participate in and sometimes lead committees that oversee curriculum development, accreditation processes, and other departmental activities. Contribute to the broader strategic direction of the architecture program.
- University Service: Serve on academic committees within the broader university, contribute to institutional governance, and engage in faculty activities that promote a positive academic environment.
- Professional Engagement: Actively engage with professional architecture organizations (e.g., IIA, AESA etc) and participate in community outreach initiatives, such as public lectures, conferences, or architecture exhibitions.
Qualifications: As per Council of Architecture’s Minimum Standards for Architectural Education 2020
Education:
- Required: Bachelors Degree in Architecture or equivalent to B. Arch. with minimum 60 percent. Marks and Masters Degree in Architecture or in allied subjects of Architecture with minimum 60 per cent. Marks at either level and one year of relevant professional experience.
- Eight years’ experience in teaching/ research/professional work out of which a full-time teaching experience of minimum three years
Or
- Thirteen years of professional experience.
- Additional Training: Post-professional education or advanced study in a specialized area of architecture (e.g., sustainable design, urban planning, or digital fabrication) is highly desirable.
Experience: As per Council of Architecture’s Minimum Standards for Architectural Education 2020
- Required: A minimum of 8 years of teaching experience IN Teaching/ Research / Profession (out of which Minimum 3 years of full time teaching experience) , including substantial experience in advanced architectural design studios and courses. Demonstrated expertise in research, publication, and the ability to guide students in the development of advanced design and academic work. Or 13 years of Professional Experience.
- Professional Practice: Significant professional practice experience (13+ years, if no teaching experience), including involvement in real-world architectural projects, research, or design competitions.
- Leadership: Proven ability to lead academic initiatives, influence curriculum development, and mentor faculty and students in both research and practice.

- Leadership and Collaboration: Ability to take initiative and lead within the department while fostering collaboration across disciplines and professional networks.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present research and ideas clearly in both academic and public settings.
- Design Expertise: Advanced design skills and familiarity with cutting-edge digital tools, sustainable design methods, and contemporary architectural technologies.
- Research Excellence: Strong research and critical thinking skills with a proven ability to publish work in high-impact, peer-reviewed academic venues.
- Teaching Ability: Demonstrated ability to teach and mentor students at all levels, from undergraduate to doctoral candidates, in both classroom and design studio settings.
