JOB IDENTIFICATIONDesignation: Safety Officer (Manager)Reporting to: Senior Director and Chief Engineer & and Infrastructure OfficerDepartment: Infrastructure, Campus Operations & Estate DevelopmentLocation: Sonipat, HaryanaWorking Days: 6 days per weekROLE OF DEPARTMENTThe Infrastructure, Campus Operations & Estate Development Department manages the comprehensive operation and maintenance of the university’s 100-acre campus, ensuring seamless functioning of all utilities and infrastructure, including electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, water, and fire systems.The Safety Division plays a vital role in ensuring occupational health and safety standards across all university operations. It focuses on developing, implementing, and monitoring safety policies and programs to safeguard students, staff, visitors, and assets. The division also ensures statutory compliance, conducts safety training, promotes awareness, and fosters a proactive safety culture across academic and residential areas.SCOPE AND RANGEScope:Development and implementation of institutional safety policies and procedures.Oversight of all safety operations, including audits, inspections, and risk management.Coordination with departments, vendors, and regulatory agencies for safety compliance.Monitoring of emergency preparedness systems and incident response mechanisms.Leadership and supervision of the safety team and coordination with the Fire & Safety function.Planning, budgeting, and continuous improvement of safety standards across the campus.Range: University-wide – including staff, faculty, students, contractors, and visitorsMAIN TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIESDevelop, implement, and review safety, health, and environmental (HSE) policies aligned with statutory and organizational requirements.Lead and manage safety operations across campus infrastructure, academic, and residential areas.Conduct comprehensive safety audits, hazard assessments, and risk analysis on a regular basis.Identify unsafe practices and ensure immediate corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).Ensure all construction, renovation, and maintenance works comply with safety standards and codes.Plan and conduct regular training, mock drills, and awareness programs for staff, students, and contractors.Supervise the functioning of fire detection and protection systems in coordination with the Fire & Safety team.Maintain updated safety documentation, including statutory registers, licenses, inspection reports, and renewals.Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, prepare reports, and recommend preventive measures.Liaise with government bodies, local authorities, and auditors to ensure 100% compliance with safety regulations.Prepare and monitor the annual safety budget, including PPE, signage, and training requirements.Promote a proactive safety culture by encouraging participation, feedback, and accountability within teams.JOB SPECIFIC REQUIREMENTSa) Minimum Qualification:B.Tech / M.Tech in Safety, Fire, Industrial Safety, or Environmental EngineeringAdditional certification in NEBOSH / IOSH / HSE preferredb) Years of Experience:10–15 years of relevant experience in safety management, preferably in institutional, industrial, or large campus environments.c) Technical Expertise:Strong understanding of occupational health and safety standards, codes, and statutory regulations.Expertise in safety audits, risk assessment, and compliance documentation.Proficiency in developing and conducting safety training and emergency response drills.Familiarity with fire safety systems, hazardous material management, and EHS best practices.d) Skills and Attributes:Excellent leadership and team management skills.Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.Effective communication and interpersonal skills.High level of integrity, responsibility, and attention to detail.Ability to handle emergencies with composure and authority.Proficiency in report writing, record maintenance, and use of MS Office and safety management software.
