Role Overview:

As the Biochemist / Enzyme Engineer, you will play a critical role in identifying, engineering, and optimizing enzymes to achieve efficient, scalable H₂O₂ production. Working closely with the Process Engineer and Fermentation Specialist, you will drive the enzymatic foundation of our production process, focusing on enzyme selection, stability, and activity.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, identify, and optimize enzymes to support the cell-free enzymatic synthesis of H₂O₂.
  • Modify and engineer enzymes to enhance stability, activity, and efficiency under industrial reaction conditions.
  • Work closely with the Process Engineer to integrate enzymes seamlessly into the production workflow.
  • Conduct enzyme assays and analyze reaction kinetics to determine optimal conditions for enzyme performance.
  • Design and execute experiments to improve enzyme yield, purity, and robustness.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of enzyme modifications, assay results, and experimental protocols.
  • Contribute to the scale-up process by developing and testing enzyme formulations suited for pilot-scale production.
  • Collaborate with the Computational Biologist on in-silico modeling and structure-function analysis to support enzyme engineering.
  • Stay updated on advancements in enzyme engineering and apply innovative techniques to support project goals.


Software Skills:

  • Proficiency with enzyme kinetics and modelling software such as CobraPy, MATLAB, or PyMOL for structural visualization.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics tools for sequence analysis and enzyme modification.
  • Experience with data analysis tools like Excel, R, or Python to interpret experimental results.


Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Bioengineering, or a related field with a focus on enzyme engineering.
  • Hands-on experience with enzyme selection, modification, and optimization for industrial or research applications.
  • Strong understanding of protein structure-function relationships and enzymatic reaction mechanisms.
  • Proven track record in designing and conducting enzyme assays and kinetic studies.
  • Excellent laboratory skills, including protein purification, assay development, and analytical techniques.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with attention to detail in experimental design and execution.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in cell-free enzymatic systems or biocatalysis is a plus.
  • Familiarity with sustainable or green chemistry practices.
  • Knowledge of microbial fermentation for enzyme production (a plus but not required).
