Position Overview:
The Professor of Practice in Finance will be responsible for teaching, mentoring, and training MBA/PGDM students specializing in Finance. This role focuses on not just imparting academic knowledge, but also preparing students for successful placements by bridging the gap between academia and industry requirements. The incumbent will also play a key role in equipping students with the necessary technical, soft, and professional skills sought by top finance organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Teaching and Academic Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality lectures and sessions on core finance subjects such as corporate finance, financial management, investment analysis, financial markets, financial modeling, and risk management.
- Develop and update course materials, presentations, case studies, assignments, and exams to ensure relevance and industry alignment.
- Facilitate a practical learning environment by incorporating real-world case studies, financial tools, and simulations into the curriculum.
- Ensure academic excellence by regularly assessing student progress, providing feedback, and offering guidance on their academic development.
2. Placement Preparation and Corporate Readiness:
- Design and conduct specialized sessions focused on corporate finance practices, financial tools, and market dynamics to make students industry-ready.
- Collaborate with the Placement Cell to understand the expectations of corporate partners and ensure the curriculum aligns with those requirements.
- Conduct mock interviews, group discussions, and personality development sessions to prepare students for placement interviews.
- Organize workshops and training on resume building, interview skills, negotiation strategies, and personal branding.
- Facilitate internships, live projects, and industry visits that give students exposure to real-world finance practices and organizational culture.
3. Industry Collaboration and Networking:
- Build strong relationships with industry professionals, recruiters, and finance leaders to create placement opportunities and industry partnerships.
- Regularly invite industry experts for guest lectures, webinars, and panel discussions to enhance students’ exposure to real-world challenges.
- Work closely with the Placement Team to ensure students are placed in leading financial firms, banks, and corporate finance departments.
- Foster industry ties that lead to internships, live projects, and other corporate-sponsored academic activities.
4. Student Mentoring and Career Counseling:
- Provide one-on-one mentoring to students, offering guidance on career choices, academic development, and personal growth.
- Organize career counseling sessions, job fairs, and alumni interactions to help students explore diverse finance career paths.
- Advise students on industry certifications (e.g., CFA, FRM, CAIA) and professional development opportunities to enhance their employability.
5. Curriculum Development and Continuous Improvement:
- Contribute to the development and periodic revision of the finance curriculum, ensuring that it reflects current market trends, financial regulations, and emerging financial technologies.
- Ensure the integration of practical tools such as Excel, Bloomberg, financial software, and other technical skills that are critical for students’ success in the finance industry.
- Participate in departmental meetings, contribute to academic research, and help improve overall teaching and learning outcomes in the Finance Department.
6. Research and Professional Development:
- Engage in applied research and scholarly activities in the field of finance, focusing on industry challenges, financial modeling, risk management, etc.
- Stay updated on the latest trends in finance, economics, financial technology (FinTech), and related fields to incorporate new knowledge into teaching practices.
- Attend conferences, webinars, and training sessions to enhance professional knowledge and teaching capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Academic Qualifications:
- A Master’s degree in Finance (MBA/PGDM or equivalent) from a reputed institution. A Ph.D. in Finance or related fields is preferred.
- Professional certifications such as CFA, FRM, CA, ACCA, CPA or other relevant certifications in finance would be an added advantage.
- Experience:
- Minimum 8-10 years of professional experience in finance, including at least 3-5 years of teaching experience at the post-graduate level.
- Practical experience in corporate finance, banking, investment analysis, financial consulting, or related areas.
- Experience in placement training or corporate relations is highly desirable.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Expertise in various areas of finance including corporate finance, investment management, financial modeling, and risk management, investment banking, equity research, fund accounting, commercial credit risk.
- Familiarity with industry tools and software (Bloomberg, MATLAB, etc.) and the ability to teach students how to use these tools effectively.
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage students and industry professionals alike.
- Deep understanding of current industry trends and the financial ecosystem, including financial regulations, fintech, and market dynamics.
- Strong mentoring and interpersonal skills, with the ability to guide students through their academic and professional journeys.
