Position Title: Embryologist

Location: Neelkanth Infertility & IVF Centre, Faridabad, Haryana

Reports To: IVF Specialist / Medical Director

Job Type: Full-time / Part-time

Job Purpose:

An Embryologist plays a crucial role in an IVF center by managing and overseeing all laboratory-based aspects of fertility treatments. This includes the preparation, fertilization, incubation, grading, selection, and storage of embryos. They ensure optimal conditions for embryo growth and play an essential part in enhancing the chances of a successful pregnancy.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintaining the Lab Environment:
  • Create and maintain an optimal laboratory environment for embryo growth and storage, ensuring that conditions such as temperature, humidity, and other factors are closely monitored and controlled.
  • Regularly check and maintain laboratory equipment, including incubators, microscopes, and cryopreservation systems to ensure their proper functioning.
  1. Retrieving Eggs:
  • Assist in the retrieval of oocytes (eggs) during egg collection procedures by removing the ovarian fluid, ensuring that eggs are retrieved safely and accurately.
  1. Checking for Fertilization:
  • Examine eggs under a microscope after fertilization attempts (IVF or ICSI) to confirm fertilization success, documenting the results and preparing the next steps for embryo culture.
  1. Incubating and Monitoring Embryos:
  • Place fertilized eggs in an incubator that mimics the uterus' environment, ensuring optimal conditions for embryo development.
  • Monitor embryo growth regularly and adjust culture media as necessary to provide the best chances for embryo survival and development.
  1. Grading Embryos:
  • Assess and grade embryos based on factors like cell number, size, shape, and symmetry. Use grading as a method to determine the quality of embryos, which helps in making decisions regarding which embryos are most suitable for transfer.
  1. Selecting Embryos for Transfer:
  • Choose the best quality embryos for transfer, ensuring that the most viable embryos are selected to optimize the chances of a successful pregnancy.
  1. Cryopreserving Embryos:
  • Cryopreserve surplus embryos for future use, employing safe freezing and thawing techniques to ensure high survival rates during the storage and later thawing process.
  1. Performing Genetic Testing:
  • Conduct embryo biopsies as part of preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) to screen for genetic disorders or chromosomal abnormalities, ensuring that only the healthiest embryos are transferred or cryopreserved.
  1. Assisted Hatching:
  • Use laser-assisted hatching techniques to thin the outer shell (zona pellucida) of the embryo, facilitating its implantation into the uterine lining during the embryo transfer process.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Educational Requirements:
  • Master’s degree in Clinical Embryology, Reproductive Biology, or a related field.
  • Certification in Embryology from recognized professional bodies (e.g., ESHRE, AACE) is preferred.
  • Experience:
  • Minimum 2-5 years of experience working as an Embryologist in an IVF center or fertility clinic.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of IVF, ICSI, embryo cryopreservation, genetic screening, and assisted hatching.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Expertise in using laboratory equipment such as IVF incubators, microscopes, laser systems for assisted hatching, and cryopreservation units.
  • Knowledge of quality control protocols, embryo grading systems, and patient data management.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Attention to detail and precision in laboratory work.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to explain procedures to patients and work collaboratively with the medical team.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations, especially when handling sensitive and critical procedures.
