In this role, you will work closely with our engineering team to design, optimise, and scale database systems that power high-growth, user-facing applications.If you enjoy solving complex data problems, improving performance at scale, and building reliable systems, this role is for you.- Design, develop, and maintain MySQL database schemas, queries, views, triggers, and stored procedures.- Optimise database performance, including indexing, query tuning, caching, and load balancing.- Work closely with backend engineers to integrate MySQL effectively within Node.js services.- Contribute to backend development when required using JavaScript, TypeScript, Node.js, and Express.js.- Ensure data integrity, security, backups, and high availability- Support system design discussions and propose scalable database solutions.- Troubleshoot database-related issues and drive root-cause analysis.- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve overall application performance.What skills do you need?- 3–6 years of dedicated hands-on experience with MySQL—including query writing, optimisation, schema design, and performance improvements.- Strong understanding of relational database concepts, normalisation, indexing strategies, and execution plans.- Experience working on high-scale, high-growth product-based companies (mandatory).- Ability to design efficient, scalable database structures for B2C applications.- Strong analytical mindset—able to understand why a certain approach is more optimal, not just how to implement it.- Experience working in fast-paced startup environments where performance and speed matter.- Familiarity with database monitoring tools and performance dashboards.- Experience optimising systems for speed, scalability, and reliability.Good to have- Exposure to backend development with Node.js, JavaScript, TypeScript, and Express.js.- Experience with ORM tools like Sequelize.- Knowledge of MongoDB, AWS RDS/Aurora, Redis, or caching layers.- Understanding of CI/CD and basic DevOps concepts.
