Position Overview:
Lightfury Games is seeking a Lead Backend Engineer with a passion for building scalable backend systems for AAA-quality games. This role demands technical expertise in backend architecture, a proven track record of scaling games from scratch, and the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to create seamless gaming experiences for millions of users worldwide.
Key Responsibilities:
Backend Architecture : Design and implement highly scalable, robust, and low-latency backend systems to support AAA-quality games.
Game Scaling : Build and optimize backend solutions from the ground up, ensuring the infrastructure can handle high concurrent user volumes.
Cloud Infrastructure : Lead cloud-based deployment strategies using platforms like AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
Database Management : Optimize and manage databases (e.g., SQL, No SQL, Redis ) for data integrity, performance, and scalability.
Server Development : Develop secure and efficient APIs, microservices, and real-time communication systems (e.g., Web Sockets).
Performance Optimization : Monitor and resolve system bottlenecks, improving backend reliability and response times.
Leadership : Mentor a team of backend engineers, providing technical guidance and fostering growth.
Cross-Functional Collaboration : Work closely with Game Designers, Frontend Engineers, and Dev Ops teams to align backend systems with gameplay mechanics.
Security : Ensure secure coding practices, data protection, and compliance with industry standards.
Game Analytics : Integrate backend systems with telemetry for performance monitoring and actionable insights.
Mandatory Skills :
Programming : Proficiency in any modern programming languages like Java, Javascript, Python, Golang, Ruby etc with expertise in backend systems for high-performance applications.
Architecture : Expertise in Microservices architecture, RESTful APIs, g RPC, and scalable system design.
Databases : Strong experience with My SQL/Postgre SQL , and No SQL solutions like Mongo DB, Dynamo DB, or Cassandra.
Cloud Platforms : Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure , including tools like EC2, EKS, GKE, AWS Lambda, S3, Kubernetes, and Docker.
Scalability : Proven ability to scale backend systems for games supporting millions of concurrent players.
Networking : Strong understanding of network protocols, real-time server systems, and matchmaking logic.
Game Development : Backend development for multiplayer games, leaderboards, player data management, and in-game economies.
Tools : Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Git version control, and performance monitoring tools (e.g., Grafana, Prometheus).
Nice-to-Have Skills :
Experience with Unreal Engine or Unity backend integration.
Knowledge of Live Ops and backend tools for player engagement.
Exposure to serverless computing and container orchestration.
Understanding of game development pipelines and versioning.
Qualifications :
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
8+ years of backend engineering experience, with a minimum of 3 years focused on backend systems for gaming projects.
Prior experience leading a team of engineers.
