About the Role:

The Underwriter will be responsible for the end-to-end underwriting process of proposed financing amounts and terms for small businesses. Collaborating closely with the Relationship Manager, the Underwriter will evaluate and structure financing options that are attractive to small business owners while minimizing risk.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Relationship Managers to structure, analyze, and negotiate credit transactions. Handle the full cycle underwriting process for assigned small business financing.
  • Assess clients#x27; ability to repay financing through detailed analysis of cash flow statements, US tax returns (e.g., 1120, 1120S, 1065, 1040), and other financial documents.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial analysis on small businesses, including trend and ratio analysis, to evaluate credit quality and cash flow adequacy.
  • Perform credit and financial statement analysis on co-owners, guarantors, and individuals to determine asset coverage for requested loan amounts.
  • Coordinate with Relationship Managers on customer calls and site visits.
  • Conduct additional due diligence as necessary to determine the creditworthiness of small business owners.

Required Skills:

  • Formal credit training is preferred.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a commercial credit analysis or commercial underwriting role, particularly with small businesses.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret individual and company financial statements, cash flow, industry and competitive analysis, and projections.
  • Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing applications (Excel and Word), including graph/chart usage and Moody#x27;s financial analysis software.
  • Basic understanding of credit principles, lending operations, loan research, and due diligence searches (e.g., SOS, Clear report, TLOx Transunion, NYC’s, Westlaw/Dockets, Credit bureau reports) and general credit policies.
  • Excellent communication skills, with experience handling calls with counterparts in the US.
  • Detail-oriented, able to work well under pressure and manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Effective problem recognition and resolution skills.
  • Willingness to work in night shifts.

Qualifications : Bachelor/ master's degree in finance, Accounting, or a related field
