Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU) Subject Matter Expert Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) to provide technical leadership and expertise in the implementation and optimization of the Open Subsurface Data Universe (OSDU) platform. This role will be instrumental in driving the adoption of OSDU standards and technologies while ensuring best practices in subsurface data management.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical guidance and expertise on OSDU architecture, data models, and implementation strategies Lead the design and implementation of OSDU-based solutions, ensuring alignment with industry standards and best practices Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate OSDU platform with existing systems and workflows Develop and maintain documentation for OSDU implementations, including technical specifications and user guides Conduct training sessions and workshops to build team capability in OSDU technologies Evaluate and recommend improvements to data management practices using OSDU framework Participate in OSDU Forum working groups and contribute to the advancement of OSDU standards
Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Geoscience, Petroleum Engineering, or related field 7+ years of experience in oil and gas industry data management 3+ years of hands-on experience with OSDU implementation or similar data platforms Strong understanding of subsurface data types, formats, and workflows Expertise in cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) Experience with data migration and integration projects Proficiency in one or more programming languages (Python, Java, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications Experience with OSDU Mercury or higher releases Knowledge of industry standard data formats (WITSML, RESQML, PRODML) Experience with modern data architecture patterns and microservices Contribution history to OSDU open source projects Certification in relevant cloud platforms Experience with DevOps practices and tools Technical Skills OSDU Data Platform Cloud Services (AWS/Azure/GCP) Data modeling and architecture API design and implementation ETL processes Container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) CI/CD pipelines Version control systems (Git) Responsibilities Include Technical Leadership Guide architectural decisions for OSDU implementation Review and approve technical designs Establish best practices and standards Provide technical oversight for projects Implementation Support Lead proof of concept projects Develop integration strategies Troubleshoot complex technical issues Optimize platform performance Knowledge Management Create technical documentation Develop training materials Lead knowledge transfer sessions Maintain implementation guides Stakeholder Engagement Participate in OSDU community events Represent organization in technical forums Collaborate with vendors and partners Present to executive stakeholders Travel Requirements 20-30% travel may be required for client sites, conferences, and team meetings
