Role Summary As a Senior Backend Developer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust and scalable backend systems. You will leverage your expertise in Python, databases, and cloud technologies to build high-performance APIs and ensure the reliability and security of our applications. This role requires a strong understanding of distributed systems, real-time data processing, and best practices in security and compliance. Technical qualifications: Backend: 4+ years Python (FastAPI, async/await, type hints); 3+ years PostgreSQL (production, optimization, indexing, PgBouncer, ACID, replicas, materialized views); 2+ years Redis (production, caching, TTL, Pub/Sub, cluster, session, distributed locks); API (RESTful, versioning, rate limiting, cursor pagination, JWT/OAuth, OpenAPI/Swagger). Cloud & DevOps: 3+ years AWS (EC2, Auto-Scaling, S3, RDS, CloudFront, ALB, Lambda, IAM, Route 53); 2+ years Terraform (modules, state, multi-environment); GitHub Actions (CI/CD, automated testing/deployment); Docker (best practices, multi-stage, Compose, optimization, security); Monitoring (Prometheus & Grafana OR ELK/equivalent, structured logging, alerting, APM). Real-Time & Distributed: WebSocket (scalable, connection management, heartbeat, horizontal scaling); Message Queues (Redis Pub/Sub, RabbitMQ, Kafka for event-driven, background jobs); Distributed Systems (CAP theorem, eventual consistency, caching, race conditions). Security & Compliance: Auth/Auth (JWT, OAuth 2.0, token rotation, session, RBAC); Security Best Practices (input validation, sanitization, SQL/XSS/CSRF prevention, rate limiting, encryption); Compliance (GDPR, COPPA fundamentals, data retention, audit logging). Database & Performance: DB Optimization (query profiling, index design, N+1 resolution, connection pooling, caching); Performance Optimization (API response, load testing, caching, profiling tools). Essential Attributes Self-starter: Independent ownership from design to deployment. Problem solver: Strong debugging and troubleshooting for complex distributed systems. Communication: Clear written and verbal communication for documentation, code reviews, and technical discussions. Detail-oriented: Strong attention to security, edge cases, and error handling. Adaptable: Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment. Collaborative: Effective teamwork with mobile developers, AI engineers, and product team. User-focused: Prioritizes safety and compliance for a platform serving minors. Work Style Comfortable with remote/asynchronous work. Proactive in identifying issues and proposing solutions.
