About the Company:

The incumbent will be responsible for management of the metallurgy function with an oversight of all the strategic metallurgical projects. Identify and implement opportunities for improvement in metallurgical performance of the steel heavy duty forging plants either through continuous improvement, growth projects, or through deployment of leading-edge technology and innovation and its transfer. Participate in sound technical metallurgical processing due diligence, promote Industry Best Practices at operating companies.


About the Role:

Ideal candidate for this role will be having all round experience in speciality steel manufacturing, matellurgy process, R&D experience out of which atleast 15 years experience in EAF, Induction heating furnace, LF, VOD/VD, ingot casting with added hands-on experience in ESR/VAR/VIM plant making Inconel/Incoloy/DSS/ superalloys/Zirconium/Titanium/Aluminium, with ability to organise, planning and coordinating entire product development including requirement analysis, BOM, optimum element finalizing with respect to parts component specifications, designing, verification and validation. Process control system implementation in all production units, with connection to PLC control and ERP systems.


Responsibilities:

  • Supervising and developing metallurgical staff as well as undertaking coaching, lead the process of forecasting of the steel production for the assigned operation
  • Anticipates threats and opportunities to the product forecast over short, medium, and long-term horizons and recommends strategies to mitigate, supported by sound ore characterization as well as modelling and simulation
  • Select critical processing technology and equipment using sound decision analysis methods that takes into account technical, financial (capital and operating expenditures), operating and maintenance data, whilst agreeing decision methodology and evaluation with key stakeholders
  • Set all the process benchmarks including mass and energy balance, critical equipment and technology selections, process design criteria, process control and automation strategy, metallurgical sampling and accounting plan
  • Detailed process design and Contribute to the preparation of technical reports and Approval for Expenditure documents (AFEs) for major projects. Provides data analysis, economic evaluations including review of operational data to determine cause of production shortfalls and recommends solutions


Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgical Engineering and 20 years of experience in heavy forgings or steel plants including five (5) years of experience as head of the function. Recognized amongst peers as a Subject Matter Expert in metallurgy function. Conversant with NABL & ISO-9001 practices have thorough knowledge of different codes/standards like ASME, ISO, BS & various testing methods. In addition to Mechanical, Chemical & Metallurgical testing, should have hands on knowledge of corrosion testing like ASTM A262, ASTM G46 & 48, NACE standards, etc. Conducting metallurgical quality audit of SMS, Forging, HT, suppliers & investigation of heat treatment/material/component problem and finding solution.
