Job Title : Electrical Substation Design Engineer Job Summary : The Electrical Substation Design Engineer is responsible for designing, planning, and overseeing the documentation of multiple electrical substations. This role involves developing detailed design engineering, selecting appropriate equipment, and ensuring that all substation systems meet the required standards for safety, reliability, and efficiency. The engineer collaborates with various departments and stakeholders to ensure the successful completion of substation projects/ assignment. Substation Design : Develop comprehensive designs for electrical substations, including layout plans, schematics, wiring diagrams, and control systems. Equipment Specification : Select and specify equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, switches, protective relays, and control panels to ensure optimal performance. Electrical Studies : Conduct electrical system studies (load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, grounding, etc.) to ensure proper functioning of substation equipment. Preparation of technical specifications, equipment sizing calculations and layout drawings. Review of design analysis and detailed construction drawings, Vendor document reviews, Witnessing factor acceptance tests. Managing the entire projects on Technical, Schedule and Cost. Coordinate with all project stakeholders Project Management : Manage substation design projects from concept through to completion, including scheduling, budgeting, and coordinating with construction teams. Collaboration : Work closely with civil and structural engineers, project managers, and contractors to ensure the successful integration of electrical designs into construction plans. Safety Considerations : Design substations that adhere to safety protocols and minimize risks, ensuring compliance with OSHA, NESC, and other relevant safety standards. Innovation and Optimization : Stay current on new technologies and design methodologies to improve substation design processes and performance. Technical Documentation : Create and maintain all necessary documentation, such as design reports, technical specifications, and as-built drawings. Quality Assurance : Perform quality checks and site inspections to verify that designs are correctly implemented during construction. Cost Estimation : Prepare cost estimates for substation design, equipment, and construction based on project requirements. Skills : Proficiency with design software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, and electrical analysis tools like ETAP or PowerFactory. In-depth understanding of power system design principles. Familiarity with protection and control systems, relay coordination, and SCADA systems. Strong analytical skills for electrical system studies (load flow, short circuit, grounding). Knowledge of relevant industry standards ( Excellent project management and communication skills.
