Sabyasachi Mukherjee is an Indian fashion cum jewelry designer who started his eponymous label in the year 1999. Sabyasachi nurtured the brand with one vision- to resurrect India’s painstakingly meticulous heritage of textiles, fabrics and artisanal workmanship. He is the first Indian designer to showcase at Browns, London and also Won National Award for the best costume designer for film ‘Black’. Today, with five flagship stores across the country, formidable global and national collaborations and a strong foothold in the Indian film and television industry, Sabyasachi Mukherjee’s vision has become a reality. Aditya Birla Fashion Retail Ltd which recently acquired 51% stake will complement the brand on its journey to become a global luxury fashion house.
Role Description
This role works directly with Mr. Sabyasachi Mukherjee to create RTW as well as haute Couture pieces such as evening wear, gowns, jackets, dresses, skirts, etc for menswear and womenswear.
Responsibilities
1.Developing seasonal collections of menswear/womenswear in close association with the design team – both RTW and couture
- Development of new menswear/womenswear silhouettes/patterns individually or with pattern masters
- Developing sketches/technical drawings of garments
- Defining and supervision of grading, sizing
2.Prototype/Sample creation
- Overseeing the production of proto designs
- Carrying out fittings for models/VIPs
- Coordinate with sourcing team to evaluate materials (fabrics, trims, etc.) based on design requirements
3.Design information communication
- Communicating technical design information for production/customer samples
- Engaging with production teams to ensure quality and consistency
Tasks
- Research and Develop a range of collection basis brief given; study and interpret the sketches Create toiles/prototypes. Make adjustments after fittings.
- Work in accordance with the technical instructions, the chosen materials, and the deadlines.
- Communicate clearly with seamstresses on assembly and finishes .
- Control the quality of each design before and after fitting.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in fashion design from
- National institute like NIFT, Pearl Academy of fashion
- International fashion design institutes such as Parsons, Central Saint Martins, Fashion institute of Technology, London College of fashion, Esmod, Polimoda, International Fashion Academy.
Experience
- 1-3 years as a designer working on evening wear / western wear (NOT bridalwear)
- Mandatory experience in pattern making
